The Young Men’s Initiative (YMI) Mentoring Program is a DYCD-funded initiative designed to improve outcomes for young people, particularly Black and Latino youth, through structured mentoring, leadership development, and group-based programming. The program focuses on building confidence, supporting academic and career exploration, and fostering positive relationships with caring adults. Programs are delivered in community-based settings and require consistent implementation of structured mentoring sessions, participant tracking, and engagement strategies aligned with DYCD expectations.

Position: YMI Coordinator

Reports To: Program Director

Location: Beacon 271 - 164 Troy Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11213

Position Overview: The YMI Coordinator is responsible for the full coordination and implementation of the site-based mentoring program. This includes planning and facilitating weekly mentoring sessions, recruiting and supporting mentors and participants, managing all program documentation, and ensuring compliance with DYCD requirements. This role is both administrative and programmatic. The Coordinator is expected to lead sessions, manage logistics (including trips and events), maintain organized records for audits and site visits, and ensure the program runs consistently and effectively throughout the year.

What Does a/the YMI Coordinator Do:

• Plan and facilitate weekly group mentoring sessions (minimum 90 minutes) aligned with YMI goals.
• Design engaging, theme-based activities focused on leadership, self-confidence, career exploration, and community engagement.
• Coordinate and execute special events, trips, and service-learning projects.
• Ensure consistent program scheduling and delivery throughout the school year.
• Recruit, screen, onboard, and support mentors in alignment with DYCD guidelines.
• Coordinate mentor training, orientation, and ongoing engagement.
• Maintain mentor-to-mentee group structures (typically small groups).
• Monitor mentor participation and address engagement issues as needed.
• Lead outreach efforts to recruit eligible youth (grades 5–12).
• Manage participant enrollment, onboarding, and retention strategies.
• Build relationships with participants to maintain consistent attendance and engagement.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date participant and mentor files, including intake forms and consent documentation.
• Ensure all records are organized and audit-ready for DYCD visits and DYCD monitoring.
• Track attendance, participation, and program outcomes using DYCD Connect or required systems.
• Submit required reports (monthly, quarterly, and as requested).
• Organize and maintain all program documentation (digital and physical files).
• Coordinate scheduling, space usage, and materials for sessions and events.
• Manage program budget components related to activities, trips, and supplies ( incoordination with supervisor).
• Book trips, coordinate logistics, and ensure all approvals and safety protocols are followed.
• Attend required trainings, meetings, and DYCD check-ins.
• Maintain regular communication with program leadership and DYCD representatives.
• Collaborate with site staff to integrate mentoring into broader program offerings.
• Ensure program adherence to all safety, supervision, and incident reporting protocols.
• Support site-wide events and initiatives connected to YMI goals.
• Serve as a positive role model for youth participants.
• Other duties as assigned.

What are the Qualifications for the Position:

Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
• High School Diploma or GED

Minimum Experiences and Skills Required:
• Two (2) years of relevant experience.
• Experience working with youth (middle school and/or high school)
• Experience in mentoring, youth development, or group facilitation preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail (especially with documentation)
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a part-time structure
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to lead engaging group activities

Pre and/or Post Employment Requirements:
• If off-site or school-based, may require: Dept. of Health, Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance; doctor's note certifying good health; proof of negative results from TB test; and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance.
• If off-site or school-based, ability to maintain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance and fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.

Compensation: $17 hourly

When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: Part-Time
