About This Position

Avery's House is a mental health treatment provider for adolescents. We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and responsible Medical Assistant. Experience working with adolescents is preferred, and any additional experience with mental health and substance abuse is beneficial. This position provides daily support to those living in Avery's House structured recovery housing.

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for clients in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations. Medical clinical management is conducted in collaboration with other health care team members and managing the Medication Room and Self-Administration Procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Providing great patient care.
  • Ensuring patients or residents receive an appropriate diet by reviewing their dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences.
  • Obtaining a wide range of information from physicians and nurses about patient conditions, treatment plans, and suggested activities.
  • Work in collaboration with Medical Director and other treatment staff.
  • Recording vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate as requested by staff.
  • Assist in urinalysis testing and breathalyzer procedure.
  • Remind/assist patients to take medications and nutritional supplements.
  • Ordering medications and completing medication audits.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Managing medication room and self-administration procedures.
  • Noting observations of patient behavior, including complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses.
  • Stay up to date on facility policy and procedure.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior, such as by respecting staff members and client boundaries.
  • Identify types of medications commonly prescribed for mental disorders, personality disorders, and substance abuse and the common side effects and adverse reactions of the medications.
  • Completing documentation in company EMR as needed and required.

Minimum Qualification:

  • High School graduate or equivalent. (preferred not required)
  • Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Ability to think and work independently and with direction and communicate with staff members in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA.
