This remote Sales Tax Accountant role sits within a fast-growing, fully distributed finance team focused on delivering end-to-end sales tax compliance services for a diverse client portfolio.
You will play a key role in helping businesses reduce complexity and risk related to multi-state sales tax obligations.
The role combines hands-on accounting work, client communication, and operational problem-solving in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
You will manage filings, review tax data accuracy, and support clients through notices, audits, and other state-level requirements.
It is ideal for someone detail-oriented who enjoys structured processes while also improving workflows and tools over time.
You will work independently while collaborating closely with a supportive remote team operating across multiple time zones.
- Prepare, review, and submit monthly sales tax filings across multiple clients while ensuring accuracy and compliance with state requirements.
- Monitor discrepancies between tax collected and actual liability, investigating variances and coordinating corrective actions with clients.
- Support resolution of time-sensitive issues such as state notices, audits, late filings, and account corrections with tax authorities when needed.
- Assist with special projects including amended returns, backfiling work, audits, and client account updates across jurisdictions.
- Maintain and improve internal documentation, workflows, and operational processes to enhance efficiency and consistency.
- Serve as the primary ongoing point of contact for assigned clients, ensuring clear communication and timely updates on all matters.
- Continuously develop technical knowledge in sales tax and accounting tools to improve service quality and professional growth.
- 1–2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience with a solid understanding of core accounting principles.
- Experience managing multiple clients or concurrent workstreams with strong organizational skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify inconsistencies and resolve complex data issues.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with confidence in client-facing interactions.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting with reliable high-speed internet.
- Bonus: familiarity with US sales tax or CPA certification.
- Annual compensation of 59,500 USD.
