Groundskeeper at Cushing Academy – Ashburnham, Massachusetts

Through excellent and dedicated service, this position helps provide a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing campus environment. The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining campus grounds, landscaping, and outdoor facilities while supporting seasonal operations and special campus events.

Essential Responsibilities

• Inspect and patrol Academy grounds on a routine basis to remove trash and debris.
• Participate in turf, shrub, and tree treatment programs as directed by the supervisor.
• Mow and trim grass using power mowers and other landscaping equipment.
• Prune trees, remove dead branches, and maintain healthy plant growth.
• Inspect trees and turf for pests and diseases.
• Perform routine maintenance on all grounds equipment.
• Remove snow and ice using hand and power equipment; apply de-icing chemicals as required.
• Assist with trash removal and general campus cleanup.
• Rake leaves and grass clippings.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor.
• Attend training sessions and obtain required certifications related to job duties.
• Participate in on-call service on a rotational schedule.
• Follow all Academy policies and safety procedures.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, squat, twist, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
• Ability to climb and work safely from ladders.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

· Full-time position: Tuesday through Saturday.

· Overtime and shift changes may be required for special functions, snowstorms, vacation coverage, and end-of-session campus turnover.

· On-call availability required on a rotating basis.

Education:

· High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Licenses:

· Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
