Qualifications Overview
College degree, or equivalent work experience in related job function. Minimum of five (5) years of purchasing experience to include in-depth working knowledge of materials, contracts, negotiations, and suppliers. Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) certification and/or bachelor's degree preferred. A minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience to include in-depth working knowledge of materials, contracts, negotiations, and suppliers. Ability to work independently, excellent communication skills required and the ability to work in a stressful and changing environment. Ability to understand and apply statistical measures to support product quality improvement goals along with an understanding of maintenance and capital equipment requirements in the wood products industry.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the total purchasing function, including quoting, vendor selection, purchase, receipt, storage and disbursement of materials, services, and equipment at lowest total costs to the region. This purchasing support encompasses any of the following: lumber, plywood and veneer manufacturing, engineered wood products, re-manufacturing, particleboard and fiberboard manufacturing, forestry, and logging. Excluded are purchases of timber, timberlands, chips, veneer, logs, and logging contracts.
- Formulate purchasing plans for the region, establish appropriate priorities and strategy and prepare progress report to management.
- Establish and maintain a working knowledge and related records of the market to ensure maximum value to the company in terms of quality, availability, price, and technological assistance in making or supervising MRO, capital, or services purchases.
- Manage inventories to minimize financial investment yet assure adequate levels to purchase economic order quantities and support production. Identify spare parts and supplies critical to production and assure availability through stocking, vendor stocking or group critical spares program.
- Forecast pricing and availability information as significant changing market conditions influence operations.
- Negotiate with vendors, solicit and analyze quotes, and recommend steps to achieve improved performance and results.
- Assist in preparation of selected AFEs and provides necessary input for capital and key budgeting for region management.
- Assist regional engineering and coordinate with purchase and delivery of materials for capital projects while scrutinizing specifications for capital equipment and/or materials in line with the economics and other substitutions from vendors.
- Assist in analyzing causes of cost variance and recommend steps to achieve better performance and results.
- Train regional purchasing personnel and new hires in the techniques of purchasing, warehousing, inventory control and receiving.
- Assist corporate procurement and building solutions manufacturing in developing, implementing, and sustaining corporate and/or group-wide purchase agreements.
- Demonstrates a commitment to the process of continuous improvement, identifies and responds actively to the needs of all customers and is open and responsive to change.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Salary Range:
$80,000 - $120,000 Depending on Experience
