Job Summary/Basic Function:
Wheaton College seeks a qualified individual to teach one section of “Physical Sciences for Teachers” scheduled in the Fall ’26 semester and one section of “Life Sciences for Teachers” scheduled in the Spring ‘27 semester. These two interdisciplinary courses take a deep dive into the concepts and phenomena built into the Massachusetts K-12 physical science and environmental and life science frameworks. By the end of each course students will know what K-12 students need to learn, how they will need to express that learning, and how to tap into students’ natural curiosity and playfulness to develop effective and engaging lessons.

Responsibilities of the instructor include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Teaching effectively in an in-person environment that encourages student-faculty interactions.
• Creating a syllabus (with assistance, if desired) to be provided to students and posted on the course’s Canvas site.
• Selecting and ordering textbooks and/or procuring other course materials before classes begin.
• Grading assignments within appropriate time frames and posting grades on Canvas.
• Holding regular office hours and being responsive to student needs.



Minimum Qualifications:
  • An MA or MEd in Elementary or Secondary Science Education
  • At least 5 years of teaching and/or leadership experience in K-12 settings


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate teaching experience
  • Professional development teaching/facilitation experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity focused instruction


Compensation and Benefits:

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $5,000 per course.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate.
