Job Overview

The COTA Provides direct care and patient education of occupational therapy called for in the patient’s treatment plan under the direct supervision of the Occupational Therapist. Consults with the occupational therapist and educates physical therapist concerning applicable patient’s status, treatment, progress, and discharge planning.

Care Coordination:

  • Maintains communications with clinical staff providing updates and changes in schedules, patient data or needs, physician orders or special instructions.
  • Participate in patient care conferences offering clinical suggestions.
  • Ensures that clinical notes indicate continuing communications and coordination of services with physicians, other staff, and disciplines.
  • Demonstrates effective time management skills by completing patient assignments within projected time frame and arriving to appointments as scheduled.
  • Always maintains availability to the therapists for advice, assistance, and instructions.

Documentation:

  • Clinical documentation is complete and accurate and submitted to office per policy and guidelines.
  • Documentation reflects notification of occupational therapist when patients’ status changes.
  • Documentation of visits reflects the patient’s response to care and assessment of psycho-social needs throughout the course of care.

Patient Care Skills:

  • Verifies the plan of care prior to each visit and provides care according to the occupational therapist, physician’s orders and assessment data.
  • Performs occupational therapy services in accordance with accepted standards of practice and certified by the patient’s physician.
  • Instructs patient and/or caregiver in the appropriate and safe use of durable medical equipment, prosthetic, orthotic and ADL assistive devices.
  • Educates the patient and/or caregiver and care team members in therapy home programs and clarifies as necessary.

Regulatory:

  • Clinical record documentation demonstrates compliance with therapist/physician orders for care provided and frequency of visits made.
  • Documentation demonstrates compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and other regulatory requirements.

Infection Control:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control standards and techniques as per VNHS policy
  • and procedures and consistently practices these techniques.

Schedule:

  • Full-time
  • Flexible schedule with a combination of remote and in-field responsibilities
  • Some in-office presence required weekly

Location:

  • North Fulton, Forsyth County, Gwinnett County, Norcross and Cumming

You’re Perfect for the Position if you:

  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
  • Hold current licensure by the Georgia State Board as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Proficiency in ICD coding and/ or OASIS Required
  • A professional knowledge of the practices and techniques inherent to the scope of practice. Communications skills to interact effectively with patients, family, and care team members. High degree of motivation and ability to follow directions. The ability to utilize written and oral communications effectively, some occasional stress due to the workload pressure.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of quality improvement as well as data analysis relative to performance improvement.
  • Can function independently in a community-based environment
  • Possess strong clinical, documentation, and time management skills
  • Are comfortable with EMR systems and standard office software & equipment
  • Have reliable transportation

Compensation Range: $54,000 - $68,000
