Under general supervision of the MRI Technologist, closely partners with the MRI Technologist to perform a variety of clinical and clerical activities necessary to support the smooth operation of the MRI service.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Obtains and records appropriate patient clinical information and/or history; verifies physicians' orders and reviews the results of relevant lab tests
2. Assists the technologist in the transfer and positioning of patients as needed, ensuring their modesty and physical safety, utilizing auxiliary equipment and/or devices as needed
3. Prepares oral contrast media, under the supervision of the technologist, for administration to the patient. Accurately documents work in HIS/RIS/PACS systems
4. Maintains cleanliness of dressing rooms, tables and equipment to prevent cross contamination of contagious diseases, keeps rooms well stocked with linen and necessary supplies
5. Keep up to date with changes in MRI and MRI Safety, following departmental MRI safety policies and procedures
6. Performs other clerical and assists techs as requested and/or required
7. Conducts pre-screening interviews via telephone with patients prior to their date of service. Also pre-screens patients prior to entry of MRI zone II on their date of service
8. Assists the technologists with obtaining documentation of implants for MRI safety purposes
9. Assists the technologists with obtaining clinical documentation for protocols from Radiologist
10. Can book or reschedule patients as needed.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. High school diploma or GED required
2. BLS healthcare provider required before completion of 90-day probationary period

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
2. Strong attention to detail.
3. Basic clerical and computer skills.

Preferred:
1. Medical Terminology preferred but is not required.
2. Prior medical experience preferred but is not required.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

On-the-job time is spent in the following physical activities:
1. Frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
2. Periodic prolonged sitting

This job requires exposure to the following environmental conditions:
1. Patient care environment.
