About This Position

  • GENERAL SUMMARY

    • The Clinical Practice Manager, RN (Wound and Ostomy) is responsible for developing and coordinating processes and worflow to facilitate the delivery of evidence based wound care. Independently carries out and is accountable for daily operations and other negotiated/assigned duties. Facilitates a safe environment and just culture of patient safety through the development and management of activities that reduce the risk of injury to patients, visitors, and stakeholders and promotes reporting of events. Independently carries out and is accountable for daily operations and other negotiated/assigned activities. Provides overall responsibility for designated service operations with 24-hour accountability. Seeks guidance from the Director and/or upper management for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice. Reports to department leadership.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Collaborates with hospital services as necessary to provide quality wound care services.

    • Serves as the primary contact and resource for the nursing services required for wound care from the time of admission through follow up care.

    • Maintains appropriate standards of practice and standard care

    • Supervises data collection, coding, scoring validation, reporting and analysis to ensure the data drives all aspects of the wound care service line (clinical care, research, benchmarking).

    • Participates in the selection of wound and ostomy care products.

    • Oversees the enhancement of wound and ostomy EHR documentation.

    • Delegates staff education opportunities to appropriate department members.

    • Develops strategies for frontline patient safety engagement and accountability.

    • Leads efforts associated with new knowledge and innovation including interdisciplinary quality initiatives (unit specific quality improvement projects, Patient Satisfaction, and Culture of Safety surveys), evidence based practice projects and clinical research.

    • Facilitates a safe environment and just culture of patient safety through the development and management of activities that reduce the risk of injury to patients, visitors, and stakeholders and promotes reporting of events.

    • Develops strategies for frontline patient safety engagement and accountability.

    • Delegates, supervises personnel, solves problems, makes decisions and develops systems and processes for successful integration and implementation.

    • Leads, manages, coaches, and trains a team or department, provides guidance, support, and mentors to ensure optimal performance and productivity.

    • Oversees the recruitment, hiring, team/department orientation, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions including up to termination processes for a team or department.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

    • Required Licenses and/or Certifications

      • Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license.

      • Wound and ostomy certification via the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Certification Board required within one year of hire.

      • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • Required Education and Experience

      • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.

    • Preferred Education and Experience

      • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.

      • Healthcare/management experience preferred.

      • Pediatric experience preferred.

      • Wound care experience preferred.

      • 1-2 years supervisory experience preferred.

    • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

      • Possesses excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to plan, establish and maintain a professional work environment.

      • Ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational functions.

      • Interpersonal skills necessary to direct subordinates and delegate tasks.

      • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice.

      • Technical and professional knowledge unique to the business and/or clinical operations of the designated services (Nursing, Financial, Human Resource, Information Systems, Risk, Governance, Regulations, Planning and Marketing).

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
