Description

Summary:
The Electronic Test Technician II is responsible for performing advanced testing and environmental stress screening (ESS) on electronic units to ensure compliance with quality and performance standards. This role involves setting up and calibrating test equipment, loading and monitoring test profiles, documenting results accurately, and troubleshooting anomalies during testing. The technician works independently, supervises Level I technicians when needed, and ensures production demands are met. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols are essential for success in this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare Units for Environmental and Stress Screening (ESS): Place production units into the ESS chamber according to established work instructions. Verify correct positioning and secure all units as required.
  • Load Test Profile: Select and load the appropriate test profile for the current testing phase. Confirm that the profile settings match the work order specifications.
  • Monitor ESS Cycle: Continuously monitor the ESS chamber and testing rack while the cycle is running. Record any anomalies or alerts immediately.
  • Production Tracking: Complete all required entries in the browser-based production tracking software. Sign off electronically once tasks are completed and verified.
  • Unit Testing: Perform pre-test and final test procedures using the approved app-based test software. Document results accurately in the designated system.
  • Production Demand Monitoring: Review the production demand list regularly. Ensure all required units for the day are completed and ready for the next process.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Typically 1–2 years of relevant testing or technical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical or mechanical testing systems.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to set up and calibrate test equipment.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and evaluating test results according to applicable codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures (e.g., lockout/tagout, arc-flash hazard analysis for electrical testing roles).

Knowledge Areas:

  • Understanding of testing standards and specifications.
  • Ability to organize and report test results accurately.
  • Basic math and algebra skills for calculations.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise Level 1 technicians.
  • Effective communication skills for reporting and documentation.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency with browser-based production tracking systems and app-based testing software.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) for documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to navigate and input data accurately into ERP or MES systems.
  • Familiarity with automated test equipment interfaces and troubleshooting software issues.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, work instructions, and safety guidelines.
  • Strong written communication skills for accurate documentation of test results and anomalies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production status and issues.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Basic arithmetic and algebra for calculations related to testing parameters.
  • Ability to interpret measurement data and apply tolerances according to specifications.
  • Understanding of units of measure and conversions (e.g., volts, amps, ohms, temperature).

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to identify and resolve problems during testing and screening processes.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret test results and determine compliance with standards.
  • Capacity to follow detailed procedures while adapting to unexpected issues or anomalies.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on production demand and deadlines.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing and testing environment with exposure to electrical equipment and environmental stress screening chambers.
  • Noise levels are moderate; hearing protection may be required in certain areas.
  • May involve occasional exposure to temperature variations during ESS cycles.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular standing, walking, and handling of test equipment and production units.
  • Ability to lift and move components weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity for connecting cables, securing units, and operating test instruments.
  • Visual acuity to read instruments, screens, and detailed documentation.
