Overall goal: The Trainer / Production Training Lead is a hands-on, floor-based role responsible for training employees to perform their jobs safely, consistently, and to defined quality standards. This role spends the majority of time working directly with production employees, demonstrating tasks, observing performance, and verifying skills.
The Trainer develops and maintains practical training content in the company LMS, conducts skill and safety assessments (such as safe hand tool use), and ensures assigned training is completed on time.
Duties and responsibilities
Hands On Training & Coaching
• Provide direct, hands-on training and coaching to production and support employees on the shop floor.
• Demonstrate proper work methods, safe practices, and standard work for assigned job tasks.
• Observe employees performing tasks and provide real time feedback to reinforce safe and correct execution.
• Support onboarding and job specific training for new hires and transferred employees.
Training Content & LMS Support
• Create, update, and maintain role appropriate training content within the company LMS, with guidance as needed.
• Help convert work instructions, standard work, and safety requirements into practical training modules.
• Support development of visual aids, videos, and simple assessments to reinforce learning.
• Update, maintain, and control training related policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all company locations.
• Produce and maintain training manuals, work instruction guides, and supporting documentation for all production locations.
• Ensure all training materials, manuals, and policies reflect current operational practices and approved standards.
Skills & Safety Assessments
• Conduct skills and competency assessments for employees (e.g., hand tool use, equipment operation, key production tasks).
• Evaluate employee skill levels using defined criteria and document results.
• Identify gaps in skills, knowledge, or safe work practices and recommend additional training or coaching.
• Maintain skills matrices and training qualification records for assigned roles.
Training Execution & Tracking
• Ensure required training is completed by assigned employees within defined timeframes.
• Track training completion, follow up on overdue items, and escalate issues as needed.
• Maintain accurate training records to support audits, inspections, and compliance requirements.
• Train employees in updated policies, procedures, and work instructions, ensuring understanding and proper application.
• Communicate policy and procedure updates to affected employees and supervisors in a timely manner.
Cross Functional Support
• Operations: Support production readiness, consistent task execution, and workforce capability.
• QHSE: Assist with safety training, incident follow up training, and corrective action support.
• HR: Support role changes, and workforce development activities related to training.
Continuous Improvement
• Identify opportunities to improve training effectiveness, clarity, and usability.
• Provide feedback on work instructions, training materials, and processes based on floor observations.
• Support standardization and continuous improvement initiatives related to safety and quality.
• Perform any other duties assigned by senior management.
• Review and update training manuals, policies, and procedures regularly based on process changes, audit findings, incidents, or operational feedback.
• Support the rollout of updated policies and procedures across all locations, ensuring consistency and standardization.
HR Training & Compliance Support
• Support HR led trainings related to company policies, compliance, and workforce requirements, including but not limited to harassment prevention, workplace conduct, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
• Train employees on updated HR policies and procedures assigned, ensuring understanding and acknowledgment of requirements.
• Track and maintain accurate completion records for assigned HR related training within the LMS or designated systems.
• Communicate HR training updates, changes, or refresher requirements to employees and supervisors in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
• Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
• Strong practical understanding of shop floor work, tools, and safe work practices.
• Ability to train and coach employees through demonstration and observation.
• Basic experience using digital tools or systems (LMS experience preferred but not required).
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively and fairly with hourly employees and supervisors.
• Organized, dependable, and comfortable following defined processes.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience as a lead, trainer, senior operator, or similar working lead role.
• Experience supporting safety, quality, or compliance initiatives.
• Familiarity with skills matrices, job task analysis, or structured training programs.
• Bilingual ability (site dependent).
