Summary:

St. Peter the Apostle is seeking a mission-driven, dedicated, entrepreneurial educator to serve as Assistant Principal. This individual should have a passion for Catholic classical education, a heart of service, and a strong desire to be part of a team as we move to our new school building and expand to 7th grade in the 2026-2027 school year (8th grade will be added the following year). Key responsibilities for the Assistant Principal in the coming year will include designing and implementing a student support program, overseeing student discipline, and building systems to ensure operational effectiveness (ex. components of the admissions process, tardy tracking, etc.) in light of the school’s mission and vision. The Assistant Principal reports to and works closely with the Principal in implementing the academic program and fostering a vibrant school culture in accordance with the school’s Catholic classical identity.

General Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Instructional Leadership & Student Learning:

  • Supports the Principal with communication, training, and supervision of the faculty and staff
  • Assists in planning for staff development, curriculum, educational textbooks and materials
  • Designs and implements a student support program to address students’ academic, behavioral, and emotional needs (includes developing specialized learning plans (SLPs) for students through a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), including accommodations based on the school’s resources and mission)
  • Collaborates closely with faculty and parents to support student success
  • Advises the Principal on admissions decisions in the application review process
  • Supports the referral process for student evaluation within the public-school system
  • Supports gradebook setup through the FACTS system and report card/progress report distribution
  • Maintains documentation of instructional planning
  • Assists with designing the master schedule
  • Assists with faculty and other meetings
  • Observes and evaluates instruction and provides constructive feedback on performance
  • Supervises teachers and other staff or volunteers, as assigned by the Principal
  • Oversees faculty and staff committees, as assigned

School Culture & Discipline:

  • Designs systems for tracking tardiness, absences, disciplinary incidents, and academic probation and monitors student progress in these areas
  • Oversees student discipline by responding to behavior incidents, carrying out the disciplinary policies of the school, supporting teachers in addressing learning and behavior issues, and monitoring student conduct
  • Supports the Principal in developing handbooks
  • Interprets and enforces school policies
  • Coordinates key school events (ex. Curriculum Night, Kindergarten Graduation, etc.)
  • Provides direct supervision of school sponsored activities

School Culture & Discipline:

  • Designs systems for tracking tardiness, absences, disciplinary incidents, and academic probation and monitors student progress in these areas
  • Carries out the disciplinary policies of the school
  • Interprets and enforces school policies
  • Provides direct supervision of school sponsored activities
  • Supports the preparation of handbooks
  • Coordinates key school events (ex. Curriculum Night, Kindergarten Graduation, etc.)
  • Trains and helps coordinate volunteers for a variety of school tasks and functions

Communication & Organization:

  • Supports and assists with the responsibilities of the principal
  • Serves as the principal in the principal’s absence
  • Assists in the general administration of the school
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other professionals
  • Leads admissions tours; responds to questions from prospective parents
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others
  • Assists with design and execution of the school safety plan
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis; ensures the safety and well-being of self and others
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or participating in a Master’s degree program with minimum 18 credit hours in educational administration and supervision courses* or a valid, appropriate state certificate, as outlined in the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards.
  • 5+ years of experience as a classroom teacher
  • Prior experience in school administration strongly preferred
  • Practicing Catholic living in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy; knowledge of Catholic classical curriculum preferred
  • Proven experience evaluating instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Proven experience managing student learning and behavior with sound knowledge of child development

*Preferred administration/supervision coursework includes curriculum, legal issues in non-public schools, finance, strategic planning, facility management, cultural competency, special education, supervision of personnel, and assessment.
