Group Legal Director - Employment, Incentives and Pensions

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Group Legal Director - Employment, Incentives and Pensions in the United Kingdom.

This senior leadership role provides strategic legal oversight for all employment, incentives, and pensions (EIP) matters across the UK and European operations. You will work closely with executive leadership, the People team, and the Remuneration Committee to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and deliver innovative solutions that support workforce strategy. This role combines high-level advisory responsibilities with hands-on management of a team of lawyers, influencing policies, processes, and frameworks that scale with the business. You will operate at the intersection of law, governance, and people strategy, shaping the organization’s legal approach to compensation, reward, and pensions. The position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, forward-looking environment where your expertise directly impacts organizational success and long-term growth.

Accountabilities:
  • Provide strategic legal advice on all employment, incentives, and pensions matters across the UK and EU operations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Group Chief People Officer, Executive leadership, and Remuneration Committee, guiding policy, procedures, and legal frameworks.
  • Oversee the legal aspects of compensation arrangements, reward policies, and incentive structures including share options and other long-term schemes.
  • Manage and mentor a team of senior employment lawyers and support the broader legal team across EIP matters.
  • Provide legal guidance throughout the employee lifecycle, including hiring, executive contracts, people processes, departures, and contentious matters.
  • Support international EIP projects, coordinating with in-country legal teams to ensure compliance and alignment with local regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal functions including People, Reward, Tax, Risk & Compliance, and Finance to ensure coordinated, risk-aware solutions.
  • Develop and implement scalable processes, frameworks, and tools to enhance the efficiency of EIP legal support.
  • Lead training and knowledge-sharing initiatives to build organizational understanding of key legal and regulatory developments.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel to ensure cost-effective, high-quality legal support.
Requirements:
  • Significant post-qualification experience in employment law, with expertise in incentives and pensions; experience in financial services or technology is a plus.
  • Strong technical knowledge of employment law, incentives, pensions, and regulatory frameworks impacting compensation.
  • Experience advising at executive level and presenting to senior committees, with the ability to translate legal considerations into business solutions.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills, including mentoring lawyers and fostering high-performing teams.
  • Strategic thinker with problem-solving abilities, capable of balancing business objectives with risk management.
  • Comfortable handling complex and varied legal issues, knowing when to engage external counsel effectively.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with ability to operate across global teams and multiple jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop scalable legal frameworks, streamline processes, and implement innovative solutions.
  • High level of commercial awareness and understanding of regulatory and governance requirements.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary circa £190,000–£210,000 plus performance-based incentive awards.
  • Flexible working arrangements including London, Cardiff, or remote within the UK.
  • Learning and development budget for courses, training, and conferences.
  • Opportunities to lead and grow a high-performing legal team in a dynamic, innovative environment.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including pension, healthcare, and wellness programs.
  • Inclusive and diverse workplace culture with a focus on equity and belonging.
  • Participation in forward-looking projects, including technology-driven workflow solutions.
