About This Position
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned physical education lessons that promote fitness, skill development, and healthy lifestyle habits.
- Support the diverse developmental needs of students through engaging instructional strategies, cooperative games, and structured physical activities.
- Use a variety of assessments — including skills checks, fitness benchmarks, performance tasks, and formative observations — to guide instruction and monitor progress.
- Implement routines that build teamwork, sportsmanship, problem-solving, and student ownership of learning.
- Collaborate with school staff and interdisciplinary teams to support whole-child development and contribute to schoolwide initiatives.
- Communicate consistently with families regarding student progress, behavior, and expectations, reflecting the emphasis on communication in the attached document: “Communicate consistently with families regarding student progress, behavior, and academic expectations.”
- Maintain and organize equipment, ensuring safe and effective use of gymnasiums, outdoor fields, and recreational spaces.
- Adapt instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities or individualized education plans.
- Monitor and support students’ social-emotional development, including conflict resolution, teamwork, and self-advocacy.
- Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings when applicable, and schoolwide professional learning communities.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior logs, and documentation required by school and district policies.
- Supervise students during transitions, recess, assemblies, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor/administrator
Requirements:Required Qualifications
- Valid South Carolina teaching certification in Physical Education.
- Bachelor's degree in physical education or related field.
- Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and classroom management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching physical education in a school-based setting.
- Training in fitness education, adapted physical education, or health and wellness programming.
- Experience integrating technology or digital tools into physical education instruction.
