This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact nuclear, DOE, and commercial engineering projects by applying advanced geotechnical earthquake engineering and seismology expertise. You will work on complex, multi-disciplinary initiatives where your technical input directly influences the safety, resilience, and performance of critical infrastructure. The position blends analytical design work, field involvement, and collaboration with diverse engineering teams and clients. You will support key activities such as seismic hazard analysis, ground motion characterization, and geotechnical site investigations, while also contributing to design innovation and project development. Operating in a highly technical and regulated environment, you will help ensure compliance with stringent nuclear and engineering standards. This is a senior-level role with strong leadership and mentoring expectations, as well as opportunities to shape technical direction and guide junior engineers.
Accountabilities:- Provide advanced geotechnical engineering and seismic analysis support for nuclear, DOE, and commercial projects within a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Develop, review, and oversee geotechnical site investigations, including design studies, engineering calculations, and technical reports.
- Perform and evaluate deterministic and probabilistic seismic hazard analyses (PSHA), including site response and ground motion characterization.
- Prepare spectrum-compatible acceleration time histories and conduct seismic design and analysis using established engineering methodologies.
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure integration and alignment of technical solutions throughout project lifecycles.
- Lead proposal development, project scoping, and engineering estimates to support project execution and planning.
- Draft technical specifications, evaluate bids, and support procurement and installation decisions for geotechnical scope.
- Conduct field visits and site walkdowns to assess structures, systems, and components related to project requirements.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers while contributing to a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
- Ensure compliance with applicable nuclear industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Advanced degree in Civil Engineering, Geophysics, or related field from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum of 10 years of geotechnical engineering experience, including significant exposure to seismic engineering applications.
- Required experience in nuclear engineering projects and regulated environments.
- Strong expertise in geotechnical earthquake engineering, seismic hazard analysis, and ground motion studies.
- Familiarity with nuclear and industry standards such as NRC, EPRI, NEI, ASCE, and ASTM.
- Experience with geotechnical and seismic software tools such as PLAXIS, FLAC3D, SASSI, RSPMATCH, and SHAKE (preferred).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders.
- Willingness and ability to travel 10–20% as required for project needs.
- PE certification preferred.
