About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care through the application of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This individual ensures care is inclusive, equitable, and culturally and linguistically appropriate, in accordance with organizational policies, clinical protocols, and the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act. The Registered Nurse demonstrates strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and leadership skills while supporting patients and their families across diverse healthcare needs. Additionally, this role collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, contributes to continuous quality improvement, and upholds standards of excellence that align with operational goals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive, patient-centered care in accordance with organizational protocols and clinical standards.
- Provides safe and effective nursing care independently within the scope of practice, ensuring alignment with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
- Performs clinical procedures as directed by providers and in accordance with established policies, including but not limited to:
- Ensures patient confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations.
- Assists providers with exams, procedures, treatments, and patient communication.
- Administers medications, IV therapies, injections, and prescribed treatments.
- Performs triage, clinical assessments, and department-specific nursing functions.
- Documents patient information accurately and processed provider orders.
- Coordinates scheduling, referrals, and patient registration functions.
- Supports medication management and provides patient education for self-care.
- Communicates effectively with patients and relays information to providers.
- Utilizes required computer systems and electronic health records to support accurate and efficient patient care.
- Provides cross-coverage at fixed medical sites and assists with case management as needed to ensure continuity of care.
- Delegates tasks appropriately in accordance with state regulations and departmental leadership, maintaining accountability for delegated responsibilities.
- Collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive care and ensure quality outcomes.
- Acts as a clinical resource and role model, fostering a positive work environment and supporting departmental and organizational change initiatives.
- Participates in quality improvement activities aimed at enhancing care delivery and patient outcomes.
- Responds effectively to emergency situations and maintains competency in emergency nursing procedures.
- Maintains current certifications and licensure, demonstrating continued competency in clinical skills, technology usage, and electronic documentation.
- Engages in ongoing education and professional development activities to enhance clinical knowledge and performance.
- Cross-trains in other departmental roles to support operational flexibility and team coverage.
- Actively participates in department meetings, in-services, committees, and other collaborative activities.
- Maintains strict adherence to scheduled work hours with regular and reliable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor’s degree (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience.
- Preferred Bilingual in English and Spanish.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES
- Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, and PALS certification at time of hire, or within three-months of employment.
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR), per FHC guidelines.
