English Teacher (Maternity Leave Substitute) 2025-26

Who We’re Seeking

We are seeking a highly skilled, passionate English teacher to serve as a long-term substitute starting in April through May for multiple sections of English. The sections include two sections of 9th grade English (1 College Prep and 1 Honors), one section of 11th grade American Literature (College Prep), and one section of 12th grade World Literature (College Prep). Experience advising school newspapers is a plus, as there may be an additional opportunity to substitute for our Newspaper elective.

This is a unique opportunity to join a highly professional faculty at a school that offers a robust and rigorous dual curriculum in General and Jewish Studies. At minimum, qualified candidates must have earned a bachelor’s degree and hold a professional teaching license in their particular subject area.

Duties and Responsibilities

Teachers report directly to their Department Chairs and work closely with the Dean of Faculty and Academic Dean. Teachers are responsible for carrying out the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Planning and Instruction: Plans and delivers instruction based on clear, departmentally agreed upon course learning targets.

2. Assessment: Assesses student understanding using a variety of formative and summative instruments aligned to course learning targets.

3. Classroom Environment: Establishes and maintains clear expectations for student conduct.

4. Professionalism: Demonstrates professional judgment, ethical conduct, and appropriate language/behavior with colleagues, students, and families. Follows policies contained in the Rochelle Zell Jewish High School Faculty Handbook.

Upon receiving a generous endowment from the Zell family, the school was renamed in honor of the Zell family matriarch, Rochelle Zell. Our current enrollment consists of 137 students drawn from over 20 communities in the Chicago area and beyond.

Contract Dates

Date of Hire – June 15, 2026

Compensation

$250-$325 per teaching section per week, based on degree and experience.
