This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
SME contributor to the development of company capabilities, best practices, and standards while developing advanced techniques, procedures, and criteria required for release and verification of assigned processes. Applies extensive engineering methods to design and analyze propulsion, systems and processes. Development, release, and support of engineering artifacts across the development cycle to support hardware fabrication, assembly, verification, test and operations. Implements operating procedures, resolves system malfunctions, and provide technical information. Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified propulsion system designs. Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications. Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will design and develop combustion devices (injectors, chambers, nozzles, thrusters, igniters, and related components) for various rocket engines and spaceflight systems. You will be responsible for a combustion device's complete product life-cycle from initial requirements through flight qualification including design, manufacturing, test support, performing test data reviews, processing non-conforming hardware and writing technical reports. You will need to have a background in fluid mechanics, heat transfer and structural mechanics to be successful. You will be reporting directly to a Combustion Devices Manager within the Engines business unit.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering discipline (aerospace, mechanical, chemical or physics desired)

  • Subject matter expert in combustion devices through design and development

  • Strong technical fundamentals in propulsion, fluids, thermodynamics, and combustion

  • Strong technical skills in managing failure investigations with root causes in design, manufacturing, and hardware performance

  • Proficiency with computer aided design (CAD) and mechanical design fundamentals

  • Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • 15+ years of industry experience in a related field

  • 5+ years of experience overseeing, guiding, and mentoring less experienced engineers

  • 5+ years of involvement in bid, proposal, and project capture activities

Desired:
  • M.S. in engineering discipline or higher

  • Familiarity with analytical packages ANSYS, COMSOL, Fluent, CFX, Thermal Desktop, ROCETS or ROCCID

  • Strong knowledge of entire combustion devices life cycle from design, development, qualification, acceptance and production

  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or greater, Windchill 10


Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $169,624.00 - $237,473.25

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
