About This Position
Position Summary:
The Generalist will provide support, advice and counsel in functional areas of Human Resources, while assisting the HR Director to achieve overall department objectives both strategic and tactical.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Benefit Programs
- Administer core programs including; health and welfare, post-retirement medical, 403b retirement, tuition reimbursement, and paid time off.
- Serve as the liaison between employees and benefit providers to resolve issues, provide support, and ensure employees continually stay informed about company sponsored benefit programs and changes.
- Facilitates annual open enrollment including planning and coordinating with benefit account managers, ensuring accuracy of enrollments and changes, reviewing open enrollment reports for accuracy, and providing general support to employees.
- Administers and monitors all leave management including short-term and long-term disability, FMLA, PFL, and other general leave.
- Administers and monitors interactive accommodation process and Worker’s Compensation.
- Serves as the main point of contact for former/retired employees in relation to benefit and retirement (medical and 403b) inquiries.
- Performance Management and Evaluation
- Assists with oversight from HR Director supporting employee and management complaints including investigating, recommend action plan including disciplinary corrective action and performance improvement plans in compliance with applicable governmental laws, regulations, and internal policies. Provides coaching and counsel to first-level managers and senior leadership, and all other staff and faculty.
- Administers and facilitates the annual performance evaluation process, suggests continual improvement and enhancements, run reports and monitor for accurate completion.
- Other Duties
- Assist with recruitment efforts: Collaborate with hiring managers with job postings, reviewing resumes, and maintaining the applicant tracking system.
- Assist with employee onboarding: Guide new hires through a smooth and engaging onboarding process, coordinating orientations, and managing documentation to make their first day exceptional.
- Assist with employee offboarding: Oversee the off-boarding process, including exit interviews and separation communication, working closely with the HR Generalist to handle documentation and changes effectively.
- Assist with employee transitions: Oversee employee changes; work closely with manager and finance to complete documentation and make changes within ADP and various benefit systems.
- Job Description Mastery: Update and manage job descriptions and compensation practices to ensure alignment with industry standards and organizational needs.
- Insightful Metrics: Analyze hiring and turnover metrics, providing actionable recommendations to enhance our recruitment strategies and improve employee retention.
- Compliance & Reporting: Lead and maintain, all reporting requirements of all relevant government rules, regulations and compliance, including the Employee Retirement 403b annual audit, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and Affordable Care Act (ACA), OSHA guidelines and reporting and other safety initiatives or programs, and annual employee compliance trainings.
- Liaison between employee and employment law attorney(s) regarding immigration sponsorship and maintenance.
- Assists the HR Director in development, implementation and administration of human resource programs and special projects.
- Serve as a liaison between employees and management, keeping management informed of employee related communications, updates, or concerns.
- Perform other duties and projects as may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Solid foundation of various human resource functions including; benefits and total compensation, performance management, various leave programs, and federal and state labor laws and compliance.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills; ability to recognize situations in which independent administrative judgment should or should not be exercised.
- Demonstrated organizational skills necessary for prioritizing multiple demands and project management responsibilities; ability to effectively maintain shifting priorities.
- Keen attention to detail with demonstrated analytical skills and problem solving.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively develop working relationships with stakeholders at all levels; excellent listening and presentation skills.
- Ability to identify, track, report on and follow-up on issues related to the office of human resources; demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Discretion in handling confidential information.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of college students and employees.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom and database systems.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, business administration or related degree, or relevant job-related experience preferred
- Minimum of 3 years within Human Resources, preferred prior generalist experience.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Hybrid working environment, in-office 3 days at Albany campus (days will vary).
