Summary of Role

JCSC Nursing Supervisor leads all pre-, post-, and intra- operative staff with assistance from leads. This includes overseeing the daily flow of all areas at JCSC, working with leads to ensure staffing levels are appropriate to meet the daily patient workload at the center. In collaboration with Pre/Post and OR leads, the supervisor provides evaluations and feedback in concert with the Executive Director. Upholds ORTHO values and models them at all times.

Provides leadership to: Preop, PACU and OR staff

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all operations to ensure high productivity levels, patient safety, and physician satisfaction.
  • Assist leads in management of schedule such as time off requests and timecard correction and approval.
  • Lead by example with an approachable, professional, communicative, and collaborative style.
  • Take corrective action, escalating more serious issues to the Executive Director; participate in terminations with HR.
  • Assist Pre/Post and OR leads with daily operations of the Pre/Post /OR areas.
  • Make rounds with the leads to ensure there is continual and effective communication and responsiveness to needs/concerns.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop leads to function at full potential.
  • Check in with physicians daily to ensure the team meets their needs, addressing any gaps in care or performance.
  • Maintain positive relationships with physicians and addresses concerns/needs effectively and promptly. Contact ED for assistance as appropriate.
  • Understand the financial aspects of JCSC that apply to Pre/Post, and OR including staffing and purchases, to run a fiscally responsible ASC.
  • Work with ED and A/P staff to determine equipment and supply needs of the Pre/Post /OR areas, obtain pricing information, and recommend when to purchase items.
  • Interview/recommend candidates when there are opportunities.
  • Participate in leadership meetings around planning for future-state initiatives.
  • Determine and prepare backup for absences and/or succession reasons.
  • Conduct departmental meetings to ensure timely and consistent communication.
Requirements:

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school
  • Current RN WI nursing license
  • BLS; ACLS – current or within 6 months of hire

Experience, Knowledge—

  • 2 years of full-time ASC nursing experience
  • Experience leading others strongly preferred
  • Maintain clinical nurse requirements and understand the lead role in order to support and back up leads

Skills and Abilities—

  • Leadership abilities and excellent professional communication (written, verbal, presentation, listening)
  • Customer focus and approach toward patients, direct reports, providers, leaders, etc.
  • Understanding of management concepts and ability to deploy them effectively
  • Strong prioritization, decision making, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment; must be able to multitask
  • Able to resolve conflict and work in ambiguous situations
  • Ethical and fair, without showing favoritism or bias
  • Understanding of equipment used in the full delivery of patient care in Pre/Post/OR
  • Understanding of business operations/procedures including scheduling
  • Technology skills including MS Office Suite and must be proficient in EPIC within 6 months of hire

Physical Demands/Work Environment—

  • Willing and able to travel between sites
  • Flexible to work the days and hours needed
  • Works in a clean, well lit, air-conditioned environment with low noise levels
  • Possible exposure to infection or contagious disease, needle puncture, injury from sharp instruments, or exposure to hazardous gases and compounds
  • Will work independently at JCSC, in the Pre/Post/OR areas, providing help when needed
  • Ability to work effectively with excellent speaking, hearing, and visual acuity
  • Must be able to move freely including standing, walking, bending, sitting, and squatting
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of standard office equipment
