Job Description
John A. Logan College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Nursing Instructor within the Nursing/Health Sciences division. John A. Logan College is a comprehensive community college committed to academic excellence, student success, and community engagement.
The Nursing Instructor is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality instruction in assigned nursing courses, including classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical components as applicable. Instructional responsibilities include establishing clear learning outcomes, utilizing evidence-based teaching strategies, maintaining academic rigor, and evaluating student learning to support continuous improvement.
In addition to teaching, the Nursing Instructor is expected to participate in curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, program review, and accreditation-related activities, ensuring alignment with Illinois Board of Higher Education requirements, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), the Illinois Board of Nursing, and specialized nursing accreditation standards as applicable.
The position includes active engagement in departmental, divisional, and college service, collaboration with faculty and clinical partners, and ongoing professional development to remain current in nursing practice, pedagogy, and regulatory requirements. All duties and workload expectations are governed by the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Education & Experience Requirements
Education Required:
- Master’s degree in Nursing
- Current, unencumbered, valid Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current, valid Healthcare Provider CPR certification
Experience Required:
- Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience appropriate to assigned teaching responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats appropriate for instruction, student interaction, and professional collaboration.
- Demonstrated proficiency with instructional and educational technologies sufficient to support course delivery and communication.
Experience Preferred:
- Five (5) or more years of nursing experience.
- Post-secondary teaching experience, with preference for community college instruction.
- Training or professional development in pedagogy.
- Experience in curriculum development or course revision.
Essential Functions & Position Duties
Essential duties are performed in accordance with the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and include, but are not limited to:
- Provide instruction at scheduled class, laboratory, simulation, and clinical times as assigned.
- Teach a minimum of fifteen (15) credit hours per semester during fall and spring semesters.
- Maintain and post eight (8) office hours per week for student consultation, adjusted as permitted by the CBA.
- Develop, maintain, and deliver course syllabi aligned with master syllabi and program outcomes.
- Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate academic records using the College’s learning management system.
- Participate in curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, and program improvement initiatives.
- Comply with clinical site requirements, safety standards, and regulatory expectations.
- Attend and participate in department, division, and college meetings.
- Serve on standing and ad hoc committees and task forces.
- Participate in recruitment, advising, and retention activities for nursing students.
- Engage in professional development to maintain clinical competence and instructional effectiveness.
- Observe and enforce College policies and procedures consistent with faculty rights.
- Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the scope of a tenure-track faculty role.

- Knowledge of nursing theory, clinical practice, and evidence-based care
- Knowledge of instructional methods for classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical education
- Knowledge of nursing safety standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation expectations

Non-essential functions of the position
- Participate in additional teaching assignments outside the fall and spring semesters, such as summer instruction, when offered and compensated in accordance with the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Participate in special projects, pilot initiatives, accreditation preparations, or grant-related activities when opportunities arise and are consistent with faculty role expectations.
- Attend optional College events, professional development workshops, or community engagement activities related to the College mission.
- Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus or a designated location.
