Job Overview:
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for patient simulation and radiation treatment delivery.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduate of a JCERT accredited school of radiation therapy
- At least 2 years of radiation therapy work experience
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- New Jersey State Radiation Therapy license
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiographic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association
Scheduling Requirements:
- Shift working, 7:30am-3:30pm (this does vary)
- Full-Time (FT)
Essential Functions:
- Checks for correct prescription, treatment plan, calculations, simulation/setup information, and signed consent before the initiation of radiation treatment per site / plan
- Accurately positions the patient according to instructions provided in the chart and delivers the prescribed radiation dose and treatment
- Correctly documents treatment data in patients' daily radiation treatment records and keeps charts updated
- Reviews charts daily for changes to prescription, plans, calculations, and blocking
- Obtains weekly portal films and/or images at intervals consistent with departmental policy
- Assures that all weekly portal films and images are reviewed by the attending radiation oncologist
- Uses knowledge of the ARIA system to appropriately schedule patients for simulation procedures, treatment setup and delivery, and to facilitate communication between members of the oncology team for treatment planning and procedures
- Responsible for patient simulation
- Explains the radiation therapy process and simulation procedures to the patient and ensures consent is signed prior to the simulation procedure
- Obtains all pertinent patient information such as diagnostic films, labs and pathology reports prior to the simulation
- Applies knowledge of patient positioning and correct use of immobilization devices for accurate reproduction of treatment setup
- Applies knowledge of general CT Scanner applications to obtain images for treatment planning
- Accurately documents patients' treatment position and use of positioning aides by taking digital photos and writing instructions in chart
- Coordinates and organizes workflow between simulation, dosimetry and treatment
- Maintains CT scanner and workstations
