Billing Supervisor – Patient Financial Services
Location: Boone, North Carolina | Full-Time | Hybrid
Schedule: Monday–Friday; 8:30am - 5:00pm
As a Billing Supervisor within UNC Health Appalachian’s Patient Financial Services team, you will play a key leadership role in ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality billing processes that directly support our organization’s mission. You’ll oversee daily billing operations, partner closely with internal teams, and contribute to system-wide goals through efficiency, accuracy, and a commitment to excellence.

- Compensation: Starting pay begins at $22.66 per hour to $33.99, with competitive rates based on experience and education.

Supervise the daily operations of the Patient Financial Services billing team, ensuring accurate and timely processing of charges.

Monitor workflow, productivity, and quality control standards to support organizational and departmental goals.

Evaluate staff performance, provide coaching, and support training programs to promote growth and efficiency.

Maintain adherence to regulatory requirements and billing guidelines across all payer types.

Collaborate with leadership to identify trends, resolve issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Prepare and maintain billing-related management reports using Microsoft Office tools, including Excel.

Promote teamwork and shared problem-solving across the billing and revenue cycle teams.

Associate degree required or equivalent job experience.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

CPC certification preferred.

Five (5) or more years of supervisory experience in a hospital or physician setting preferred.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel for reporting.

Demonstrated ability to co-manage departmental operations, evaluate performance, and lead staff.

CPC (Certified Professional Coder) preferred.

Strong critical thinking, diplomacy, and relationship-building abilities.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Thorough knowledge of third-party payer regulations and billing requirements.

Skilled in problem solving, data analysis, and process evaluation.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and billing-related software systems.

Visual and hearing acuity required; ability to engage in clear oral communication.

Manual dexterity for typing and computer work.

Ability to move throughout hospital areas as needed.

Periods of sitting, with some standing, walking, and occasional lifting.

Exposure to typical office and healthcare administrative environments.
