Youth Mentor/3rd Shift - Substitute Location: Mountain Rest, SC, 29664
Position Overview
Whetstone Academy is seeking PRN (as needed or fill in) Youth Mentors and 3rd Shift Direct Care Staff for evening shifts during the week, day shift on the weekends, and/or 3rd Shifts.
Youth Mentors and 3rd Shift Direct Care Staff play a crucial role in our students' success. They build trusting relationships, hold boundaries, and structure daily recreational and therapeutic activities with support and guidance from the team and manager.

Youth Mentors and 3rd Shift Direct Care Staff are trained in effective research based relationship building and de-escalation techniques.

Pay Rate: $20 per hour
Schedule:
As needed:
3:30 to 9 pm Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday;
8 am to 9 pm Friday/Saturday/Sunday;
and/or Night Shift.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide a nurturing environment and close supervision of students
  • Utilize natural and logical consequences to hold students accountable
  • Employs relationship and counseling skills effectively
  • Complete all necessary student documentation
  • Laundry (night shift only)
  • Bed checks (night shift only)
Requirements:
  • Love working with children
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with youth
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work doubles during the day on the weekends
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Pass a background check

  7. Knowledge of Youth Development: Knowledge of youth development principles, including cognitive, social, and emotional development, and the ability to apply this knowledge to support young people's growth and development.
  8. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with other mentors, staff, and community partners to achieve program goals and objectives.
  9. Flexibility: The ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances, being open to new ideas, and demonstrating flexibility.
  10. Positive Attitude: A positive attitude, enthusiasm, and a passion for helping young people reach their full potential.
Working Conditions:
Day shift
Work includes active movement around facility and on off campus activities in all weather conditions and various terrain. Must have the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, life and grasp. Must be able to stand up and move around 95%+ of shift. Must have the ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, and sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive the nature of sounds with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requires a minimal standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to visually observe residents in acts of daily living, recreational and therapeutic activities.
Night shift

Work requires a minimal standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to visually observe residents in acts of daily living and the morning wake-up routine.
