Outpatient Coder at Carteret Health Care – Morehead City, North Carolina

JOB RELATIONSHIPS

• Responsible to Health Information Management Coding Supervisor

DEFINITION OF POSITION

• Codes, sequences and enters into 3M encounter and computer assisted coding, all inpatient and outpatient medical records. Interacts with members of the medical staff, nursing units, business office, patient accounts, physician offices, Clinical Documentation Specialist and general public. Assists Director with reports and other special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Professional

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) mandatory within one year of employment will consider applicant with extensive knowledge and experience coding in a hospital setting.

  • Extensive knowledge of computers, encoders, Medical Terminology and body systems required.

  • Working knowledge of basic office equipment ex. Laser Printer, FAX machine, copy machine, etc. preferred.

  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT coding systems as well as DRGs.
