About This Position

Description:

Under the direction of the Aquatics Manager, plan, develop, organize, supervise, and evaluate assigned Aquatic programs. Responsible for ensuring the effective performance of Chomper’s Swim School. Including but not limited to Group and Private Lessons, Child and Adult, Adaptive, Water Babies, Diving, Water Polo (Splashball), and Novice Swim Team. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, coordinate, and evaluate Instructors and Head Instructors. Ensure that all required certifications are current and that instructors are fully competent in teaching various levels. Help ensure the safety of patrons in and around the pool. Inform the Physical Facilities Department of any pool maintenance issues and/or repair needs. Assists Aquatic Manager with the overall management of the Aquatics department, as assigned Responsible for all assigned Aquatic programs being conducted in a safe, clean, and customer service oriented environment and in a cost effective manner. In the absence of the Aquatics Manager, would be responsible for the operation of the Aquatics Department in cooperation with the Aquatics Safety Supervisor.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

The Aquatics role is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating aquatic programs to ensure they are efficient, well-managed, and cost-effective while meeting the needs of the community. This position works closely with leadership to develop programs, monitor revenue and expenses, and support budgeting and purchasing processes. The role also partners with staff to promote programs and maximize participation, while assisting in the development and enforcement of policies, procedures, and safety standards to ensure a secure environment for both patrons and employees. Responsibilities include supervising, training, and supporting aquatic staff, leading regular communication and meetings, and ensuring all team members maintain required certifications and performance expectations. Additionally, this position helps maintain a professional, clean, and welcoming facility, addresses patron concerns, and supports positive public relations. Ongoing professional development and staying current with industry trends are expected, along with performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Current Starfish Institute certification, or obtain within six months of hire date.

2. Minimum of two years aquatic experience which may include: teaching, teaching swim lessons, specialty classes, coaching swimming, lifeguarding, swim team experience, etc.

3. Supervisory experience highly preferred.

4. Strong swimming and teaching.

5. Good leadership and human relations skills

7. Ability to communicate and work with a team.

8. Problem solving skills and strong organizational skills

9. Approved Criminal Background Investigation Check

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or closely related field
  2. Previous experience in Aquatic facility management
  3. Certified as an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
  4. CPR/PR and First Aid Instructor
  5. Water Safety Instructor Trainer through a certifying agency approved by the District
  6. Lifeguard Instructor through a certifying agency approved by the District
  7. Experience in public speaking and public relations

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Willing and available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and be on-call in case of emergency
  2. Occasional local travel
  3. Moderate physical activity such as lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, crouching, bending, etc.
  4. Exposure to a few disagreeable elements such as noise and poor ventilation
  5. Work both inside and outside being subject to extreme or uneven temperatures
  6. Exposure to stressful situations as a result of human behavior and stringent deadlines
