About This Position

Description:

Chronicle Books is searching for an Editorial Assistant to support the administrative and editorial needs of the Children’s Editorial department and Princeton Architectural Press Editorial department.

Key Responsibilities: Guiding and anticipating next steps for Editors by project deadlines, creating task lists, drafting frontmatter, copyediting/factchecking, and working on marketing copy, top sheets, tipsheets, and PowerPoint presentations. Conducting research, maintaining title information, attending Status, Editorial, and Pub Group meetings and reviewing manuscripts and galleys will also be part of this position. The Editorial Assistant will also submit projects for feedback, draft letters and communicate sub rights deals, respond to book projects under consideration, assist with word-processing, and manage advance copy mailings. Lastly, they will maintain address databases, review unsolicited manuscripts, and organize and prepare editorial materials for internal presentations.

Hiring Salary Range: $24.52/hr - $28.25/hr. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, an applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is eligible for our profit share plan.

Schedule: Employees at Chronicle Books will follow a regular hybrid schedule in our New York office of at least three (3) in-office days per week and up to five (5) in-office days per week, depending on project and business needs. Requirements:

Candidates should have proven editorial experience with keen writing abilities, copyediting skills, proofreading skills, and an eye for detail. Competency in Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and E-mail will be helpful. They should have strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills, and possess an ability to work well with a wide variety of people. They will need a knowledge of the publishing industry, and an interest of in-house product development while being customer and author oriented.
