Job Summary:

The Director of Patient Advocacy will lead the organization’s patient advocacy strategy, building strong relationships with patient communities, advocacy organizations, and key stakeholders to ensure the patient voice is fully integrated into corporate priorities. This role drives strategic alignment across cross-functional teams, leads advocacy program development, and ensures that patient perspectives shape business decisions, disease awareness efforts, and access to therapies.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the global/national patient advocacy strategy in alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to patient advocacy groups, rare disease organizations, and non-profit partners.
  • Foster strategic relationships with patient community leaders, caregivers, and advocacy organizations to inform company programs.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs, Marketing, Market Access, Patient Services, and Communications to integrate patient voice into R&D, clinical trial design, and commercialization.
  • Lead advocacy-related policy and access initiatives to reduce barriers for patients.
  • Represent the company at patient advocacy events, conferences, and advisory boards.
  • Supervisory Responsibiites:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing advocacy team.
  • Manage advocacy budget, contracts, and compliance in partnership with Legal and Compliance and industry standards.
  • Oversee creation of disease education and awareness campaigns in partnership with external stakeholders.
  • Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience building advocacy strategies and partnerships.
  • Deep understanding of rare disease and/or specialty therapy landscapes.
  • Strong communication, diplomacy, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, teams, and compliance-sensitive partnerships.
  • Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, public health, communications, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in patient advocacy, public affairs, or related role in biotech/pharma or non-profit health sector.

    The annualized target salary range for this role is $195,000 to $205,000; actual salaries will vary and may be above or below this range depending on several factors, including experience, education, training, location, and merit.
