About This Position
Job Summary:
The Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU)/PACU Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care from admission to discharge for patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role includes patient assessment, education, and post-operative recovery management while ensuring compliance with hospital policies and nursing best practices. The ASU RN collaborates with physicians, surgical teams, and ancillary staff to optimize patient outcomes and enhance the overall surgical experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases for ambulatory surgery patients.
- Assess patient conditions, review medical histories, and communicate concerns to physicians as needed.
- Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, post-operative care, and discharge instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and pre/post-operative treatments while monitoring patient responses.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and recovery progress.
- Assist in coordinating scheduling and patient flow within the ASU to ensure efficient operations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including surgical staff and case management, to address patient needs and ensure appropriate discharge planning.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection control, and safety regulations to uphold best practices in ambulatory surgery care.
- Stay current with professional development and maintain required certifications through continuing education.
- Call may be required
Qualifications:
Licensure: Active NYS RN license.
Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
Experience: Prior experience in ambulatory surgery, perioperative, or PACU nursing preferred.
