About This Position

Job Overview:

The Principal Trainer II is responsible for the development of IT (Information Technology) Application Trainings which includes Epic application-specific trainings, the development of classroom and web-based training content, the build of the training data in the environment and executing the train-the-trainer program for credentialed trainers. As needed, Principal Trainers will deliver in-classroom training. They are self-starters and will work with Application resources and Manager. The Principal Trainer leads coordination of end-user support activities and collaborates with Application Analysts in creating workflows, troubleshooting issues, recommending mitigation plans, and escalating more complex issues.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Associate degree
  • 2+ years Principal Trainer experience
  • Experience with building courses, curricula, and assessments in EPIC-EHR
  • Demonstrated interest in supporting the development and building of the application.

Preferred:

  • Operational experience in application area is preferred
  • Knowledge of current workflows and processes within the hospital or ambulatory setting

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Certification as an Epic Principal Trainer is required
  • Applicant is expected to maintain certification as current by completing New Version Training (NVT), as applicable

Essential Functions:

The Principal Trainer is the primary contact for the development of application-specific training, including training materials development and management. In addition to the duties discussed in the Role Description, the Principal Trainer is responsible for the following:

1) Workflow Analysis and Curriculum Design and Development:

· Assisting in the identification of end-users (role and headcount) requiring training on assigned applications

· Reviewing Epic’s Training Wheels to gain an understanding of the lesson plan matrix development required

· Reviewing the E-Learning tools that will be available to end-users

· Identifying gaps in Training Wheels content or availability and what is required for RWJBH (RWJBarnabas Health) workflows/functionality

· Developing training course catalog with descriptions by end-user role

· Participation in at least one IT application other than Epic - research, curriculum development, implementation, and Train the Trainer

· Shadowing the roles to be trained if not familiar with departmental role to develop an understanding of end-user job functions/workflows and to create “crosswalk” documents (illustrating the gap between the current and future states)

· Developing role specific lesson plans that include workflow driven teaching scenarios and with sample “patient” data in the training environment to support the scenario

· Developing and implementing an end-user curriculum, including facilitator’s guides, playground practice exercises, participants’ manuals/workbooks, E-Learning modules, quick start guides, tip sheets and workflow bulletins, Designing and developing end-user competency exams

· Developing and participating in curriculum review process that includes build analysts, Operational leaders, SMEs (Subject Matter Experts), and vendor representatives.

· Completing the Training Environment build – create all users, patients, scenarios (orders, schedules, etc.) for each role trained

· Utilizing the following additional tools from Epic for development of the training environment:

o Auto Resulter – provide fake results in training patient charts in real time

o Patient Duplicator/Mitosis – tools to duplicate master training patients

o Patient Teleporter – tool to move patient information from one environment to another

2) Train the Trainer Program and Management:

· Supporting schedule development for both application specific sessions and general administration (i.e., LMS (Learning Management System), etc.) sessions

· Developing schedule for practice teach backs and paneling presentations

· Assigning CTs to class schedule

· Delivering super user training

3) Training Execution and End-User Support:

· Assist with managing and monitoring the execution of end-user training

o Managing CT class assignments daily

o Delivering end-user training (as needed)

o Providing support to CTs during end-user training (i.e., troubleshooting environment issues, etc.)

· Designing and developing the methodology for tracking and reporting end-user training statistics (e.g., attendance, competency, success rate, etc.)

· At Go-Live, Principal Trainers will be:

o Providing one-on-one or remedial training for end-users as needed

o Attending go-live “triage” meetings to solicit and facilitate end-user feedback on system

o Developing just-in-time tip sheets

· Being flexible in terms of work schedule management and accessibility during training delivery and Go-Live

· Providing go-live support for users on new applications, including functionality

· Providing on-call support for application through go-live and post go-live
