Control Room Operator at Skyway Concession Company – Chicago, Illinois

Position Summary:

The Control Room Operator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Skyway. This part-time (30 hours per week) position is benefits-eligible, providing access to health, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401k plans. Responsible for managing Skyway’s radio network in compliance with SCC policies, procedures, and FCC Rules and Regulations, the Control Room Operator is an essential link in maintaining smooth operations. Collaborating closely with various departments and serving as a key point of contact for the public, this role requires excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.

Works directly with various departments along Skyway as well as having direct contact with the public.

The set schedule for this role is:

• Monday – 12 AM-8 AM
• Friday - 12 AM-8 AM
• Saturday – 12 AM-8 AM
• Sunday – 12 AM-8 AM

Essential Job Functions (Key Responsibilities):

• Monitor and control traffic flow on the Skyway to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Respond promptly to incidents, emergencies, and system alarms, coordinating with appropriate personnel and agencies.
• Operate and troubleshoot the computerized Toll Collection System, ensuring accurate toll transactions and system functionality.
• Maintain detailed logs and reports of all activities, incidents, and system performance during shifts.WORK180
• Coordinate with maintenance teams to address infrastructure issues, such as road repairs or equipment malfunctions.
• Monitor weather conditions and implement necessary protocols during adverse weather events.
• Manage access control and surveillance systems to ensure the security of the Skyway facilities.
• Provide information and assistance to customers regarding toll operations and travel conditions.
• Ensure compliance with all SCC policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. Workstream
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a control room, dispatch, or similar environment preferred.
• Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting computerized systems and software applications.
• Strong analytical skills to assess situations and make informed decisions quickly.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with team members and external contacts.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in a 24/7 operation.
• Knowledge of traffic management principles and emergency response protocols is advantageous.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
