Math Instructor (Full-time) at John A. Logan College – Carterville, Illinois
About This Position
John A. Logan College is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position in mathematics to begin Fall 2026. The College seeks a dedicated instructor who fosters and promotes a collegial atmosphere and places student learning and success as top priorities. Successful candidates will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in various mathematics courses, such as liberal arts mathematics, elementary statistics, college algebra, and vocational mathematics. In addition to teaching existing courses, they will be responsible for developing new courses that align with the needs of our diverse student population and evolving educational landscape.
Faculty are covered under an academic year contract that consists of a fall and spring semester. Faculty are required to teach a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester and serve eight office hours per week for student consultation in fall and spring semesters. Additional teaching opportunities with compensation may be available in the summer semester. Faculty must be available to teach classes during the day, evenings, and/or weekends as determined by the schedule of classes. Full-time faculty are provided private offices and have access to excellent support services.
Education & Experience Requirements
Education required:
- A master’s degree in mathematics.
Experience required:
- The ability to communicate effectively and have basic computer literacy.
Experience preferred:
- Experience in post-secondary teaching, particularly at a community college.
- Experience in teaching in multiple instructional modalities (e.g., online, hybrid, hyflex).
- Experience in curriculum development.
Essential Functions & Position Duties
- Foster and promote a collegial atmosphere, prioritizing student learning and success.
- Deliver high-quality instruction in math courses.
- Develop new courses that cater to the needs of the diverse student population and adapt to the evolving educational landscape.
- Fulfill contractual obligations covering the academic year, consisting of fall and spring semesters.
- Teach a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester and hold eight (8) office hours per week for student consultation during fall and spring semesters. Additional teaching opportunities, including overload hours in the fall and spring semesters with compensation, may also be available, as well as options to teach during the summer semester.
- Be available to teach classes during the day, evenings, and/or weekends as per the schedule of classes.
- Full-time faculty members are provided with private offices and have access to excellent support services.

Non-Essential Functions of the Position
• Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus or designated location.
Hours: varied
Salary: The assigned faculty hiring committee shall determine the initial placement on the salary scale, using guidelines and a rubric provided in Administrative Procedure 502A. The 2026-2027 Salary Schedule can be found here: APPENDIX B-3 2026-2027 Salary Schedule
