POSITION DETAILS

Job Title: Lead Medical Technician - PRP (Regenerative Medicine)

Status: This is a full-time, year-round, benefits eligible position

Classification: Non-Exempt - Hourly

Reports To: Lab Coordinator - PRP

Location: Vail, CO - this role requires you to be onsite and requires travel to our other clinic locations

Schedule: Monday - Friday; shift dependent on business needs

Pay Range: The entry pay range for this position is $24 - 27.00/hr and is dependent on experience.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Lead PRP Technician is a working, functional lead who performs all core PRP Technician responsibilities while partnering closely with the Lab Coordinator to support day-to-day clinical and laboratory operations. This role maintains full participation in patient care while serving as a resource to the PRP Technician team to promote consistency, quality, and operational efficiency.

The Lead PRP Technician will continue to play a key role in supporting physician-directed regenerative medicine treatments, including the collection and processing of blood products such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Bone Marrow Concentrate (BMC), and ensuring timely delivery for clinical and surgical use. This position requires strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to balance hands-on responsibilities with functional leadership.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide oversight of the weekly caseload report, identifying trends and supporting operational planning
  • Oversee monthly lab review processes, including:
  • Monitoring and addressing quality control trends or variances, with escalation to Abbott customer service as needed
  • Communicating equipment issues or failures with HSS
  • Ensuring resolution of day-to-day lab maintenance needs
  • Maintain hematology analyzer quality and compliance by:
  • Uploading new QC lots every 8 weeks
  • Performing routine calibration every 6 months (or as needed)
  • Conducting Calibration Verification Assessments between calibration cycles
  • Oversee inventory management to ensure appropriate supply levels and continuity of operations
  • Serve as a liaison to lab leadership by proactively communicating lab needs, issues, and updates
  • In the immediate term, coordinate directly with Talena Williams
  • Perform venipuncture and process blood or bone marrow into necessary components following written SOPs.
  • Ensure that all patient documentation is collected and up to date according to clinical protocols.
  • Maintain laboratory instrumentation and devices according to established protocols.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and maintain the privacy of patients.

Supervisory Functions:

In partnership with the Lab Coordinator support the following:

  • Onboarding, training, and competency development for new hires.
  • Schedule PRP employees, ensuring appropriate coverage during absences due to illness, vacation, or termination. Provide coverage and support during periods of staff attrition or high volume.
  • Communicate any day-to-day changes as patient care needs require
  • Oversight of daily schedule
  • Ensure surgical times are accurate
  • MRN/Product Type/Physician are input & accurate
  • Help address staff concerns and support effective communication and resolution.
  • Approve timesheets, and manage time-off requests for PRP employees.
  • Generate and manage correspondence as needed and directed by the Lab Coordinator.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in a PRP Technician role required
  • Working knowledge of patient privacy standards and confidentiality practices preferred
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, critical thinking, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to support team coordination and daily operations
  • Current PRP Technicians in good standing who have demonstrated strong performance and are interested in expanding into a functional leadership role are encouraged to apply.
