About This Position

Description:

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing in their responsibility and accountability for the delivery of clinical services for the Community. Collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support and coordinate resident care and related administrative functions, and to represent the interests of the Community. Helps plan, coordinate, supervise and monitor the functions of Health Care facilities and the staff that work there, ensuring that all state and facility standards are met. Works collaboratively with other departments to support the Mission and Values of SCBMA.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating and overseeing all direct and indirect resident services provided by clinical personnel.
  • Help develop, maintain and implement nursing policies and procedures that conform to current standards of nursing practice, Community philosophy and operational policies while maintaining compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external entities to develop and implement quality improvement programs designed to deliver the highest possible levels of service and help improve the level of care for each resident.
  • Communicate and interpret policies and procedures to clinical staff and monitor staff practices and implementation.
  • Help oversee maintenance of resident clinical records, statistics, reports and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of organizational activities as required by the organization or regulatory entities.
  • Participate in resident admission decisions
  • Help oversee resident assessments and care plans.
  • Ensure quality care and regulation compliance by making rounds to observe staff, resident care, families, etc. and responding accordingly.
  • Ensure delivery of compassionate, quality care and clinical supervision to meet Community, regulatory and budgetary standards as evidenced by adequate services and staff coverage, absence of odors, cleanliness, prevention of pressure wounds and apparent maintenance of optimal resident functions
  • Help plan and direct clinical operations to ensure compliance with Federal and State procedures/requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations from DHEC, Fire and Safety, OSHA, Labor Laws, etc. and adhere to HIPAA confidentiality standards and Resident’s Rights.
  • Assist in preparation of regulatory inspections and surveys. Participate in response to inspection surveys and plan of correction.
  • Participate in team meetings concerning resident status, census changes, complaints and concerns as appropriate
  • Ensure facility is stocked with needed supplies and equipment
  • Act as liaison between residents, physicians, families and appropriate health care resources.
  • In absence of Director of Nursing, vested with authority to act on behalf of the Director of Nursing
  • Plan, develop, evaluate, track and coordinate all in-service educational programs and on the job training for skill nursing department
  • Maintain records on infection control procedures to meet federal and state guidelines as well as training needed for annual requirements, errors or compliance purposes
  • May monitor and observe nursing staff performing resident care tasks to assure proper procedures are followed, scheduling additional training as deemed necessary
  • Develop, plan, schedule and conduct refresher staff training as needed
  • Coordinate and administer annual resident flu and pneumonia vaccines for all residents
  • Coordinate annual staff flu vaccines, Hep B vaccines and drug tests as needed
  • Manage and oversee Charge nurses, Certified and Non-Certified Nursing Aides (CNAs) including performance evaluation
  • Other duties as assigned
