Description

Are you looking for an exciting summer opportunity to gain valuable skills and make a meaningful impact across Washington state's communities? Support Washington Dental Service as a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Learning Intern and gain hands-on experience supporting initiatives across the enterprise, with a specific focus on Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion learning and development projects. You’ll contribute to projects that strengthen employee learning programs and community-building initiatives while developing key professional skills in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

  • Experience developing Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion learning content and supporting learning and development programs for employees.

  • Building meaningful connections with colleagues, mentors, and other professionals.
  • Engaging in workshops, training sessions, and other learning initiatives to support career development.
  • Applying academic knowledge to address real-world workplace challenges and deliver results.

This non-exempt internship pays an hourly rate of $28.00 and is full-time (40 hours per week). Interns are expected to work during our standard business hours, which are from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Interns are typically required to work onsite at our Seattle office every Tuesday, with the option for remote work on other days based on departmental needs.

  • Support the expansion of the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion employee learning program by researching and organizing content that will inform new learning modules within the Manager Learning Roadmap.
  • Partner with the Learning & Development and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion teams to help develop training outlines, learning objectives, and materials that translate equity and inclusion concepts into practical learning for managers and other employees.
  • Help develop community-building initiatives that connect Inclusion Community Groups (employee affinity groups) and support ongoing engagement across the organization.
  • Connect with project teams to explore how an equity lens and human-centered approach can inform emerging AI work across the organization.
  • Engage with Human Resources (HR) teams on cross-departmental Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion projects that strengthen interconnectivity across HR functions and helps build foundational collaboration across teams.

The experience, skills, and education needed to succeed in the position are outlined below. These requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the essential functions of the role.

  • Currently pursuing or recent graduate with an associates, bachelors, or master’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, Learning and Development, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Public Policy, Ethnic & Cultural Studies, Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting community engagement, student organizations, volunteer initiatives, or programs focused on inclusion and belonging.
  • Strong interest in equity, inclusion, belonging, and community building.
  • Displays a high level of accountability by effectively managing tasks independently, meeting goals, and delivering high-quality work while staying dedicated to team objectives.
  • Ability to collect relevant information, assess data, and make thoughtful contributions to projects or problem-solving activities.
  • Enthusiastic about collaborating with diverse teams, contributing to an inclusive environment, and seeking opportunities for growth and improvement within the internship and organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across teams.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in team settings.
