About This Position
Visiting Associate Professor, Modern German, Gender, and Migration History in Transatlantic Perspective (19th and 20th centuries)
The Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh seeks applicants for a DAAD visiting associate professor position in Modern German, Gender, and Migration History in Transatlantic Perspective (19th and 20th centuries), with an appointment beginning in Fall 2026. Candidates must demonstrate success in teaching undergraduate courses; conduct scholarship drawing on sources in multiple languages; and add to our research clusters in Atlantic History, Migration, and Gender & Sexuality.
Required qualifications:
• PhD in history
• Research focuses on modern German, gender, and migration history in a transatlantic perspective
• Demonstrated research skills and a promising research and publication agenda
• Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
• German and at least two other research languages
• Ability to offer courses in modern German and European history, history of gender & sexuality, migration history, and transatlantic history

The successful applicant will join a department committed to inspirational teaching and a research university with great strengths in interdisciplinary, transnational, and international studies.
