About This Position

Description:

Metiri is a trusted analytical lab delivering environmental testing, and we're looking for a Laboratory Analyst to join our team!

The Laboratory Analyst I conducts accurate and timely analyses of samples of soil, air, or water, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and driving the company’s mission to promote environmental health and sustainability.

Laboratory Testing

  • Perform routine and complex analysis of environmental samples, adhering to strict Quality Assurance procedures, methodologies, and safety protocols to ensure precise and reproducible results.
  • Record, interpret, and report test results in accordance with established protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development and validation of new analytical methods.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Operate laboratory instrumentation such as autosamplers, detectors, titrators and other analytical equipment.
  • Perform routine instrument and equipment maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, calibration, and basic repair.

Data Integrity & Quality Control

  • Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records, including sample logs, chain of custody, and quality control documentation.
  • Monitor laboratory quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures to ensure adherence to accreditation standards (e.g. ISO 17025, NELAC).
  • Record and manage data in Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS) and conduct reviews for accuracy.

Professional Communication

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely project completion and client satisfaction.
  • Proactively report status updates and potential delays to relevant teams or members of leadership.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field preferred; or four (4) years of equivalent professional experience may be substituted for a degree.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting preferred, but recent graduates with relevant coursework are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of environmental testing methods, laboratory practices, and measuring equipment.
  • Proficiency using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and testing standards.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to identify and resolve problems, gather and analyze information, and meet time-sensitive productivity standards.
  • Professional communication skills, including: reading and interpreting written information; writing clearly and legibly, such as when preparing forms/logs/reports; listening to understand directives, feedback, or complex issues; speaking clearly and persuasively to share information, confirm details, and ask follow-up questions.

Work environment:

  • Laboratory environment with routine exposure to chemicals and testing equipment.
  • Requires adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • May require occasional outdoor sample collection.

Physical demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Occasional lifting of heavy equipment or materials (up to 25lbs).
  • Repetitive use of hands/fingers and fine motor skills for typing, grasping, and operating laboratory equipment.
  • Close visual acuity to view computer monitors, read/prepare data, and determine size/color/shape.
