About This Position
Position Summary
The Inventory Control Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of inventory accuracy, storage, timely availability in ERP and movement across our storage locations. This position ensures that all products are properly received, stored and available for sale in a timely manner. Working closely with the Sales, Purchasing, and Operations teams. The Inventory Control Manager reports to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
• Manage the receiving team and inventory personnel, while setting expectations and holding team members accountable.
• Provide training and development to ensure team members understand procedures and proper use of equipment.
• Hold regular meetings with staff, coaching.
• Develop/Adjust timeline for prime and LTP receiving as needed.
• Lead with a hands-on approach, and collaborate with Operations as needed to make improvements or changes
Team Development
• Hire, train, coach and mentor new and existing inventory and receiving team members.
• Collaborate with operations to assure all material coordinators(including saw, shear, ironworker and torch operators) are trained properly on order fulfillment processes and use of LVS Scanners and Computers, as needed.
• Foster a culture of desired self-improvement, urgency, and accountability.
• Conduct weekly one-on-one coaching sessions with all direct reports to provide performance feedback
Inventory Knowledge
• Responsibility of learning about all of the products that we stock and sell
o Proper Handling - how it should be measured and handled.
o Usage – quantities for placement of inventory
o Product Characteristics – how quickly things rust, does rust cause it to not sell as prime or LTP
o Storage – including best places and proper stocking(boards and tags)
• Understanding the need to add new items to our inventory as they are purchased so we can add item to the PO.
• Understanding our current racking and location system including other company manned yards
• Knowledge of all outside(non-company) storage locations in Houston or other cities.
Inventory Management
• Develop and enforce inventory control procedures that support accuracy, traceability, and accountability.
• Ensure all material is accurately received, labeled, located, and entered into the ERP system, all in a timely manner. This includes material from customer return or vendor return.
• Proactively plan and assign storage locations prior to material arrival, when possible, based on product type as well as handling and order fulfillment efficiency.
• Analyze inventory data to identify theft, misplacement, damage, or need to re-categorize (Prime to LTP, LTP to Prime).
Inventory Counting & Auditing
• Manage a routine cycle counting program to ensure inventory accuracy.
o If true cycle counting has not been developed yet, work with management to come up with a system to make daily counts of a significant number of stock items to improve accuracy.
• Frequently inspect material in inventory storage locations to verify that product is being counted, tagged and located appropriately.
• Investigate inventory discrepancies, find root cause and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Operations to resolve issues in a timely manner.
ERP & Data Accuracy
• Maintain integrity of item data within the ERP system, including locations, quantities and make updates as needed.
• Ensure the ERP system is being used properly by your team, without creating work arounds.
• Assist with ERP system improvements related to inventory control processes.
Collaboration & Communication
• Coordinate with Purchasing to report overstock or ensure stock-out issues are addressed immediately.
• Work with Sales Manager to assure all odd or overstocked items are brought to the attention of our sales team to facilitate sale.
• Plan, organize and lead physical inventory with participation from Operations and others as needed.

Requirements
• 3+ years of inventory management experience in a warehouse or distribution environment, preferably in metal service centers or industrial supply house.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• ERP experience required; knowledge of metal industry systems is a plus.
• Ability to think critically and plan ahead.
• Comfortable working outdoors.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
