Position Description

The dump truck driver is responsible for performing duties related to Paving/Construction operation, and the safe and responsible operation of all applicable machinery and equipment.

  1. Adhere to all safety rules and perform all job duties in a safe manner.
  2. Work effectively with other crew members and communicate clearly and efficiently.
  3. Demonstrate strong perceptual skills to monitor and respond to complex driving situations, including the ability to:
  4. Exercise sound judgment and make quick decisions when necessary
  5. Control an oversized steering wheel
  6. Shift gears using a manual transmission
  7. Maneuver the truck safely in crowded or confined areas
  8. Ability to load under an asphalt plant and safely back up to a paver to dump materials
  9. Immediately report any equipment damage, safety hazards, or accidents to the foreman.
  10. Consistently lift and/or push or pull up to approximately 50 pounds.
  11. Maintain flexibility with work schedules, including extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays, as business needs require.


Position Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Valid commercial driver's license Class A required

• 21 years or older

• Clean driving record with no moving violations

• Alert, focused, and detail-oriented

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance

• Proficient using GPS and other routing systems

• Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful

• High level of composure and good stress management

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

•While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, handle, feel, talk, see and listen. The employee must be able to push levers forward and backwards. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, twist, kneel and crouch. Employee may sit for an hour or more at a time.

• Ability to climb in and out of truck without assistance.

• Exposure to extreme temperatures both hot and cold.

• Exposure to sound or noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable.

• Exposure to contaminants such as diesel fuel or exhaust.

• Operate equipment, such as CB radios, and telephones, to exchange necessary information with dispatcher, branch manager, or other drivers.
