This senior leadership role is responsible for driving strategic partnerships and revenue-generating relationships that support a mission-driven organization addressing the national teacher shortage. The Vice President, External Relations will play a pivotal role in expanding reach across new regions while strengthening long-standing state-level partnerships. This individual will lead high-impact business development efforts, particularly with state education agencies, policymakers, and other institutional stakeholders. The role combines external relationship building, strategic advocacy, and revenue strategy execution. It is highly visible, requiring frequent engagement with senior decision-makers and influential partners. This is a fully remote position within a collaborative, equity-centered environment focused on scaling meaningful national impact.
- Lead new state business development efforts by building and managing a robust pipeline of opportunities, initiating high-level relationships, and securing new long-term contracts with state education stakeholders.
- Design and execute strategies to raise organizational visibility and credibility among policymakers, advocacy groups, and key influencers through conferences, engagements, and strategic outreach.
- Oversee renewal and expansion of existing funding agreements, ensuring strong retention strategies and proactive relationship management with current partners.
- Drive efforts to secure and maintain legislated funding streams, including coordination with external consultants or lobbyists where appropriate.
- Develop and execute a foundation fundraising strategy to secure grants supporting core operations, special initiatives, and public-sector contract support.
- Build systems for tracking legislative and budget developments to identify and act on emerging partnership opportunities.
- Proven experience in partnership development, external relations, or business development within nonprofits, government agencies, education, or mission-driven organizations, with at least 3+ years of relevant success.
- Strong ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to policymakers, funders, and senior stakeholders across diverse sectors.
- Demonstrated success in building and sustaining high-trust relationships with institutional partners, public agencies, and community stakeholders.
- Experience in or strong understanding of public education systems, policy environments, or government funding structures is highly preferred.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, particularly for grants, proposals, reports, and persuasive external communications.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to manage reputation, influence decision-makers, and navigate complex stakeholder environments.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and advancing diversity within public systems and workforce development.
- Prior success in foundation fundraising and grant acquisition is an advantage.
- Competitive annual salary range of $150,000 to $170,000.
