About This Position
Position Summary
The Field Safety & Compliance Specialist is responsible for field-level enforcement of safety and compliance programs across retail stores, gas stations, and operational sites. This role conducts inspections, identifies hazards, and ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The Inspector serves as the company’s in-the-field representative for safety, coaching managers and employees, supporting incident investigations, and ensuring that locations address non-compliance promptly and effectively.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Inspections & Hazard Control
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety inspections across all stores, gas stations, car washes, delis, service bays, and warehouses
- Utilize standardized inspection checklists and maintain accurate documentation of findings
- Ensure management performs required safety checklists and maintains proper documentation
- Identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and follow up to ensure timely resolution
- Ensure that assigned locations address any non-compliance with laws or company policy
Coaching & Training
- Provide on-the-spot coaching to managers and employees regarding safety practices and compliance
- Deliver quarterly safety trainings for field employees
- Promote safety awareness and serve as a trusted resource for employees
Incident Management
- Support incident and accident investigations by gathering facts and documentation
- Review incident reports submitted from assigned locations, ensure appropriate follow-up, and escalate issues to the Safety Manager when needed
- Escalate serious safety issues to the HR Business Partner; resolve manageable hazards independently
Compliance Verification
- Verify compliance with PPE, fuel handling, food safety, and equipment safety protocols
- Support tracking of licenses, certifications, and credentials for employees in safety- and compliance-critical roles at assigned sites
Records & Reporting
- Maintain inspection, incident, and training records for audit readiness
General
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Work Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 2+ years of experience in safety, compliance, or related field preferred
- Knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations
- Experience conducting inspections and facilitating employee training a plus
- Ability to travel regularly to multiple sites
