About This Position

Description:

OVERVIEW

The Contractor Positive Behavior Support Specialist (PBSS) is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating positive behavior support strategies to enhance the quality of life for individuals by promoting positive behavior and reducing challenging behaviors. This role involves working closely with clients, families, educators, and other professionals to develop and apply behavior support plans grounded in principles of positive reinforcement and behavior analysis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assessment: Evaluating Participants to identify specific behavioral challenges and strengths.
  2. Intervention Design: Developing and implementing strategies that encourage desirable behaviors and discourage unwanted ones, often through positive reinforcement techniques.
  3. Skill Building: Teaching individuals new skills and behaviors that support their personal and social development.
  4. Support: Providing guidance and support to individuals, families, and caregivers to ensure that behavioral strategies are effectively applied in various settings.
  5. Monitoring and Evaluation: Tracking progress and adjusting interventions as needed to ensure the best outcomes for the individual.
  6. Collaboration: Working with other professionals, such as educators and therapists, to integrate behavioral strategies into broader support plans.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • A clear state police criminal record check is required for any state in which the person has resided in the past year. If any prior convictions for offenses outlined in KRS Chapter 17.165 (1)-(3) or a prior felony conviction, contractor opportunities will not be offered. Additionally, annual background checks may be required.
  • Complete a Five (5) panel drug screen.
  • Complete a Tuberculosis (TB) skin test. Annual or bi-annual tests may be required.
  • Must complete and maintain CRP/First Aid certification
  • Must Complete and maintain Crisis Prevention and Intervention, HIPAA, Emergency Disaster Preparedness, CDS Phase I Training
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance
  • Maintain Professional Liability Insurance

Requirements:

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Primary activities are conducted within a well-lit, climate-controlled home or facility.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time and possess the normal range of body motion.
  • Manual dexterity for handling documentation and technology.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in a behavioral science and one year of experience in behavioral programming;
  • Two years of direct service experience with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities;
  • Meets all personnel and established training requirements;
  • Completed at least six hours per year of professional development or continuing education in the areas of psychology, behavioral supports, applied behavioral science or school psychology

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLs

  • Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge in supporting participants safely, adhering to their individualized person-centered care plans.
  • Displays strong communication and interpersonal skills, encompassing self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management.
  • Utilizes discernment and critical thinking to resolve discrepancies and problems, exercising sound judgment and involving appropriate parties in decision-making.
  • Possesses understanding of general business and office terminology, as well as basic knowledge of company policies, procedures, and laws.
  • Demonstrates intermediate proficiency in MS Office Suite products/programs, including the ability to compose routine correspondence and reports.
  • Handles unique situations professionally.
  • Exhibits strong planning, organizing, delegating and prioritizing abilities, with a focus on efficiency and multitasking.
