About the role

The Bronx Facilities Specialist is responsible for ensuring that Covenant House New York’s (CHNY) five Bronx facilities are consistently maintained in a safe, clean, and fully operational condition to support programmatic functions. This position collaborates with facility staff, program leadership, and external vendors to address maintenance needs, support compliance requirements, and uphold CHNY’s standards for quality and safety. The Bronx Facilities Specialist is expected to exercise sound judgment, demonstrate strong organizational skills, and uphold the mission and values of Covenant House.

What you'll do

(Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following)

  • Ensure all CHNY Bronx facilities are well-maintained, clean, and in good working order to support program operations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs, including cleaning, painting, and equipment upkeep.
  • Review, prioritize, and follow up on all daily work order requests through completion.
  • Collaborate with facility and program personnel to identify, prioritize, and resolve facility-related repair needs.
  • Coordinate with external vendors to ensure outsourced services and repairs are completed accurately and efficiently; report outcomes or concerns to the Facilities Director.
  • Schedule, track, prepare for, and attend all governmental and funder site compliance audits.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure facilities remain compliant with regulatory and funding requirements.
  • Anticipate facility-related issues and work with CHNY leadership to develop realistic action plans for a wide range of projects.
  • Ensure timely and effective completion of assigned projects within established deadlines.
  • Participate in monthly team meetings, trainings, and supervisory sessions.
  • Communicate relevant facility updates and procedural information to team members.
  • Attend all mandatory training in accordance with CHNY policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities Director.
  • Occasional housekeeping tasks.
  • Remain on-call 24 hours a day to respond to facility emergencies as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of HVAC controls, heating systems, electrical systems, and construction methods/administration.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and reliability.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong ability to assess work quality, identify issues, and recommend solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Customer-focused approach with a history of delivering high-quality service.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-risk or crisis situations.
  • Self-directed with the ability to identify and complete tasks without direct assignment.
  • Ability to respond to emerging priorities and embrace new ideas and changes.
  • Ability to lift 20–50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform moderate physical labor including climbing, bending, stooping, reaching, and kneeling.
  • Ability to work in environments with moderate heat, cold, noise, or air pollutants.
  • Competent knowledge of tools and equipment used in facility and grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of wall finishing, painting, wall covering, plastering, plumbing, and architectural finishes.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience or working knowledge of HVAC systems, carpentry, and general building trades; relevant trade certifications or licenses.

Certifications

  • Must possess or be willing to obtain within 6–12 months: OSHA safety training, NYC FDNY Certificates of Fitness (F-01, F-02, F-80, S-95, etc.), and other relevant credentials.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel between multiple Bronx locations.
  • Ability to maintain inventory of supplies necessary to perform job functions.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Covenant House.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • This position supervises Facilities Team, Chief Engineer and Engineers.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or related fields strongly preferred..

The pay range for this role is:
65,000 - 65,000 USD per year(Bronx, NY)
