About This Position
We’re looking for a versatile Mohs Histotechnician to join our team—someone who can run the Mohs lab and also step into a Medical Assistant support role as needed to help keep the clinic running smoothly
Mohs Histotech (Mohs Histotechnician) — Job Requirements
- Education/Training: Completion of an accredited histotechnology program or equivalent on-the-job Mohs lab training preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience in a Mohs surgery lab required; demonstrated proficiency in frozen sections required.
- Technical Skills:
- Embed, cut, and stain Mohs frozen tissue sections with consistently high quality and rapid turnaround.
- Operate and maintain cryostat/microtome; troubleshoot common issues.
- Perform H&E staining (manual or automated) and maintain stain quality.
- Proper specimen orientation, mapping support, and clear communication with surgeon/team.
- Knowledge of tissue handling, fixation, and artifact prevention.
- Quality & Compliance:
- Adheres to OSHA/CLIA/CAP standards as applicable; understands infection control and hazardous material handling.
- Maintains accurate documentation, logs, QC records, and labeling per policy.
- Work Style: Excellent attention to detail, ability to work efficiently under time pressure, strong organization and prioritization.
- Physical/Environmental: Ability to stand for long periods; manual dexterity for fine sectioning; ability to lift/move lab supplies (e.g., up to 25 lbs)
- Medical Assistant — Job Requirements
- Experience: Prior clinical experience in a Mohs & Dermatology clinic preferred; dermatology/surgical experience a plus.
- Clinical Skills:
- Rooming patients; vital signs; medication/allergy review; accurate history intake and documentation.
- Scribing medical examination into ModMed/EMA EMR
- Assisting with in-office procedures and surgeries; maintaining sterile technique; set-up and break-down of procedure rooms.
- Specimen handling and proper labeling; basic wound care instructions and patient education.
- Administrative/EMR Skills:
- Proficient with EHR/EMR documentation, phone triage basics, scheduling support, and patient communication.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality.
- Professional Skills: Excellent customer service, clear communication, teamwork, reliability, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinic.
- Other: CPR/BLS certification preferred
- Physical/Environmental: Ability to stand/walk frequently; assist with patient positioning; lift up to ~25 lbs as needed.
