Job Description
Objective
The role of and Electrical Builder at Level II is to be proficient in panel building with little to no supervision. This will be their start into machine wiring in which they will take on greater responsibilities and learn to become more independent in their work. In this position, they will work within a team of other electrical builders at different levels, but will take direction from the Lead Electrical Builder (level III) or the manager. As they learn and grow into this role, the goal is to be trusted to take charge of the project and lead the team while the Lead Builder is away.
Responsibilities
Organizational Skills
- Perform electrical duties as assigned by the Lead Electrical Builder (level III) or the Manager
- Interface with Lead Electrical Builder in order to maintain schedule and budget
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment and follow safe working practices
- Recommend improvements in order to facilitate company growth.
Electrical Safety and Code Understanding
- Learn how to use and apply knowledge of OSHA regulations to produce a safe and ergonomically friendly work environment.
- Lean how to use and apply NFPA/NEC electrical guideline to produce machines in accordance to code regulations.
- Learn how to use and apply UL508A to industrial control panels
- Understand LOTO procedures
Build Details
- Interpret schematics both NFPA and IEC styles (AutoCAD Electrical and Eplan.)
- Bill of Materials, understand how to use the ERP system, look up parts and search database.
- Understand/lookup and interpret the manufacturer guidelines to install the parts/equipment properly.
- Use the redline process to record changes on engineering documentation.
- Industrial Control Panels
- Be able to perform all items listed under Level I in the training matrix.
- Be able to work with little to no supervision from the Lead Electrical Builder.
- Machine Wiring
- Be able to perform all items listed under Level I in the training matrix.
- To work under direct supervision of the Lead Electrical Builder.
- Interpret 3d drawings for device location and naming.
- Wire and route devices on a machine base to prevent damage to cabling and tooling.
- Understand the separation of low and high voltage and run cables accordingly.
- Learn how to tear down a machine to prepare it for shipping.
- Proficient in use of hand tools and test tools not to be limited by those listed in the training matrix.
- Follow Work Instructions and maintain checklists, IE Commissioning Binders.
Debug Skills
- With guidance and help from the Lead Electrical Builder:
- Test and adjust electrical assemblies and connections.
- Troubleshoot and debug electrical systems as needed to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
Pneumatics
- Assemble FRL’s, Valve banks and other pneumatic components.
- Label and Mount pneumatic devices (such as check valves, regulators, vacuum generators, pressure switches, and others.)
- Route pneumatic tubing/hoses from devices and cylinders to valve banks.
- Route main pipe for air distribution.
Customer Service
- Provide support for installation, and service, including on-site visits as necessary.
Other
- Maintain ISO13485 Certification requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Evaluation Test
An evaluation of the candidate compared to the training matrix will take place at either the initial interview or the follow up. This will determine the Electrical Build Level that they will be classified as. This will also help determine which areas the candidate will need additional training and coaching in.
A follow up evaluation be given 90 days after hire. This will be followed by a reoccurring annual evaluation. At each stage, the evaluation will revolve around what the employee has worked on, the weaknesses addressed in the first evaluation and what the next step is to bring the employee up to speed on the BBS standards.
- The evaluation will also include your peers and management staff.
- If progress or improvement is not shown, then the employee may receive a warning or possible dismissal.
- Progress will be kept track of inside the skills matrix.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Certifications in the following will be taken into consideration
- OSHA, UL508A or NFPA 70/79
Experience
- Minimum of two years’ experience wiring machinery or equivalent experience
- Self-motivated and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Capable of interpreting schematics
- Good communications and math skills
- Knowledge of OHSA and NFPA regulations
Equipment
- General knowledge of all types of hand tools, including crimpers and soldering equipment
- General knowledge inspection equipment including calipers, various gages, and electronic test equipment – voltage regulators, amp meters, etc.
