Overview

The Data Analyst role supports informed business decision-making at C&F Financial Corporation and its subsidiaries through strong financial planning, analysis, and collaborative partnership. This position leverages data, reporting, and analytics to identify trends, explain performance, and deliver insights aligned to business strategy.



Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborative Partnership

  • Builds collaborative partnerships with leaders and managers at all levels, including, but not limited to, corporate, subsidiary, and departmental levels.
  • Consults partners to translate business needs into tools, techniques, metrics, and dashboards for insights and data visualization.
  • Communicates effectively to ensure strong understanding of the methodology behind all reporting and analytics.
  • Develops an understanding and adherence to the principles of data quality management including metadata, lineage, and business definitions.
  • Develops processes, coordinates information requirements, and facilitates communication efficiently and accurately to deliver impactful solutions.
  • Builds foundational relationships and executes defined reporting and analytical processes.
  • Focuses on learning business requirements, data sources, and reporting standards.
  • Consults with partners to translate business needs into tools, metrics, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Independently develops reporting solutions and improves existing processes.
  • Serves as a trusted analytical advisor, providing insights, recommendations, and considerations for business decisions.
  • Leads more complex initiatives and drives improvements in analytical approaches and reporting practices.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Utilizes various business and market intelligence tools to develop models and reports, update reports, and analyze results to ensure alignment with the business strategy and forecasts.
  • Identifies trends and anomalies in financial and operating results and provides insights, recommendations, and considerations to partners.
  • Analyzes key performance indicators, highlighting trends and evaluating causes of unexpected variances.
  • Supports the Company’s financial reporting and analytical data requests, including accurate and timely reporting on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Focuses on report development, maintenance, and variance analysis under established guidelines.
  • Escalates complex issues and interpretations to more senior analysts.
  • Performs deeper analytical work, identifies root causes of performance variances, and provides actionable insights.
  • Enhances models, dashboards, and analytics to support evolving business needs.
  • Delivers advanced analysis, synthesizes complex information, and provides strategic insights and recommendations.
  • Anticipates business needs and proactively identifies opportunities for improved performance and decision-making.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
  • Collaborates on special projects and cross-functional initiatives.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field preferred. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in business intelligence and/or core reporting systems and advanced experience analyzing data in relational database environments.
  • 3–5 years of analysis experience, preferably in banking or financial services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced computer skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to varied audiences.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and business concepts.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to translate business needs into actionable reporting and analytical solutions.

Travel

Must be able to travel to all Bank locations, including subsidiaries.

Physical demands:

Employee may experience extended periods of viewing computer monitors, typing on a keyboard, sitting, repetitive motion of fingers/hands/wrists, and standing or walking.

Work Environment:

Work is performed onsite in an operational office environment.
