We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager at Dispensed to play a key role in designing and building the systems that connect patients to healthcare across Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you’ll contribute directly to architecture, system design, and code, while also guiding a small group of engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.

The systems you help build have a direct impact on patient outcomes: enabling faster access to care, improving the reliability of clinical workflows, and supporting a platform that scales as Dispensed expands into new markets and verticals.

You’ll operate at the intersection of deep technical execution and team leadership, owning critical parts of the platform, setting technical direction, and mentoring engineers, while staying close to the code and the problems that matter.

• Design and build scalable, reliable backend systems, APIs, and services that power core product and platform capabilities.
• Take end-to-end technical ownership of key systems, from architecture and design through to implementation, deployment, and ongoing evolution.
• Write, review, and maintain high-quality code, setting the standard for engineering excellence across the team.
• Drive architectural decisions and technical strategy within your domain, making pragmatic trade-offs that balance speed, quality, and long-term scalability.
• Lead delivery for complex, cross-cutting initiatives, working closely with engineers, product, and stakeholders to break down problems and execute effectively.
• Mentor and support engineers in their technical growth, helping them improve in system design, coding practices, and overall engineering judgement.
• Provide technical leadership across the team, guiding design discussions, unblocking challenges, and ensuring consistent engineering practices.
• Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to shape solutions, bringing a strong perspective on feasibility, system constraints, and technical risk.
• Improve development processes, tooling, and system reliability, proactively identifying opportunities to increase team velocity and system robustness.

• 7+ years experience as a senior or staff-level engineer, with a focus on backend systems, APIs, and distributed architectures, alongside people leadership experience.
• Proven track record of designing and building complex systems with clear ownership from concept to production.
• Deep technical expertise and the ability to make sound architectural and design decisions.
• Hands-on coding experience and a willingness to stay close to implementation details.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and influencing engineering direction without relying on formal authority.
• Ability to mentor and guide engineers, elevating the overall technical capability of the team.
• Solid judgement in prioritisation and balancing short-term delivery with long-term system health.
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with product and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Comfortable operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments. Experience in regulated industries is a plus.
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, or related field highly regarded.
