Summary Objective

The Control System Installation Technician 1 is the senior-level field installer on Stellar Energy's modular chiller projects across the US, responsible for executing complex controls wiring assignments with full independence while providing technical guidance to the broader installation team. Reporting to the Automation & Controls Installation Superintendent, this role requires strong hands-on proficiency in reading customer-specific wiring diagrams, installing DDC and BAS wiring packages, and resolving installation problems without supervisory involvement. Technician 1 is a reliable production contributor who helps maintain install quality across multiple sites, supports testing activities, and actively develops the skills of Technician 2 and Technician 3 team members as applicable. This is the top individual contributor role on the installation team and the natural stepping stone toward Foreman-level responsibilities.

Essential Functions
• Execute complex wiring assignments independently - Complete the full scope of controls wiring on assigned chiller builds — including panel terminations, sensor installation, actuator wiring, and BAS connections — accurately and on schedule using customer-specific drawings with no supervisory guidance

• Read and apply customer wiring documentation - Independently interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and customer submittal packages to determine correct installation requirements and sequences for each assigned build

• Install DDC and BAS wiring packages - Wire DDC control panels, install and terminate sensors and actuators, make BAS interface connections, and configure basic communication wiring per customer specifications across a range of control platforms

• Identify and resolve installation problems - Troubleshoot and correct wiring errors, termination issues, sensor faults, and communication problems on the production floor without requiring escalation for routine technical issues

• Inspect completed work across the team - Review finished wiring installations against submittal drawings and customer specifications on your own builds and those of Technician 2 and Technician 3 team members, identifying deficiencies and directing corrections before builds advance

• Support functional testing on the line - Assist the Foreman during controls system functional testing and customer FATs by verifying wiring connections, monitoring system behavior, documenting results, and correcting deficiencies found during test

• Keep production moving - Manage your own pace and workload to meet daily build targets, communicate progress and any roadblocks to the Foreman proactively, and step in to help teammates who fall behind to keep the line on schedule

• Coordinate component staging - Confirm that controls components for assigned builds are correctly staged and match customer specifications before installation begins, flagging discrepancies to the Foreman to prevent mid-build delays

• Maintain complete build documentation - Produce accurate as-built markups, ensure all wiring and terminations are correctly labeled, complete test records, and hand off clean documentation packages to the Foreman at build completion

• Develop Technician 2 and 3 team members - Share wiring techniques and installation knowledge with less experienced team members on the floor, demonstrate correct practices in real-time, and help teammates work through installation challenges

• Enforce safety on the line - Follow all electrical safety procedures including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements, correct unsafe conditions or behaviors immediately, and contribute to a strong floor safety culture

• Identify process improvements - Flag recurring installation inefficiencies or wiring problems to the Foreman, suggest practical improvements to installation sequences, and apply lessons learned from completed builds to future work

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Competencies

• Hands-on technical skill - Strong proficiency in low-voltage controls wiring, panel terminations, sensor and actuator installation, and BAS wiring across the control platforms used in Stellar Energy's chiller product line

• Drawing interpretation - Confident ability to read customer wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and submittal documents independently and apply them accurately to production floor installation work

• Independent execution - Completes complex wiring assignments on time and to specification without requiring supervisory direction or step-by-step guidance

• Troubleshooting ability - Diagnoses and resolves wiring errors, communication faults, and installation problems efficiently without disrupting production flow

• Quality ownership - Inspects own work and others' thoroughly, catches deficiencies before builds advance, and takes personal responsibility for delivering zero-defect installations

• Team development - Actively shares knowledge, demonstrates techniques, and helps Technician 2 and 3 team members grow their skills on the production floor

• Production focus - Understands build schedules, manages pace effectively, and communicates progress and issues to keep the line moving

• Safety leadership - Models correct electrical safety practices, reinforces safe behaviors across the team, and addresses hazards immediately

• Clear communication - Provides accurate status updates to the Foreman, escalates issues in a timely manner, and communicates clearly with teammates

• Attention to detail - Consistently applies correct wire routing, color coding, labeling, and termination standards that reflect quality workmanship on every build
