About This Position
The Senior Buyer is responsible for managing the procurement of materials, components, and services to support Columbia Vehicle Group’s manufacturing operations. This role ensures timely material availability, cost control, and strong supplier performance while supporting production schedules and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Source and procure raw materials, components, and services to support production schedules
Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to achieve cost savings and value
Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure quality and on-time delivery
Monitor supplier performance and address quality, delivery, or service issues
Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Inventory Control to align purchasing with demand
Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess and shortages
Spearhead localization efforts from Wisconsin to South Carolina.
Expedite orders and proactively resolve supply chain disruptions
Support ERP/MRP system accuracy including purchase orders, lead times, and supplier data
Identify and implement cost reduction and process improvement initiatives
Assist with new product launches, including supplier sourcing and material readiness
Provide guidance and support to junior purchasing team members as needed
Qualifications
5+ years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Experience working with ERP/MRP systems
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and data analysis
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficient at reading and understanding drawings and specification documents
Experience negotiating vendor agreements
Work Environment
Office-based role with frequent interaction on the manufacturing floor. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods as needed.
