Overview
Performs manual and semi-skilled duties for maintaining and repairing municipal infrastructure, facilities, and equipment. This role requires demanding physical labor in diverse conditions to ensure the safety and functionality of town streets, parks, buildings, and utilities.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Maintenance: Repairs roads, potholes, cracks, and sidewalks. Maintains equipment, signage, drainage, vegetation, and traffic control. Participates in snow removal, including salting and sanding.
Equipment: Operates light and heavy vehicles (e.g., dump trucks, loaders, snowplows). Performs routine maintenance and reports deficiencies.
Other Duties: Responds to public works emergencies (e.g., storm recovery, infrastructure failure). Maintains a clean, safe work area, adhering to all protocols. Performs additional tasks as assigned, including groundskeeping (mowing, trimming, tree removal), park maintenance (debris removal, facility cleaning), and necessary building repairs.
Qualifications
Education/Experience: High school diploma/GED required. Prior experience in paving, concrete, construction, maintenance, or public works is preferred.
Skills/Abilities: Proficient with hand tools and small machinery. Basic knowledge of construction/repair methods. Requires exceptional physical endurance and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Effective communication is essential.
Licensing: Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
A highly qualified candidate without a CDL may be hired, contingent on obtaining the license within one year.
Physical Requirements
Must regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Work is outdoors in varied weather (extreme heat/cold, inclement weather). Requires physical activities like bending, kneeling, climbing, and prolonged standing.
Work Schedule
Full-time, four 10-hour days. On-call availability for emergencies is required. Overtime is likely, especially during winter or emergencies.
